Thumbs up Oil type

As I was relaxing today in my la-z boy, I was thinking about some of the service things that I need to do with my car. I have a simple question for you guys..what oil weight and what kind of oil are you guys running? What do you guys know about Royal Purple with our cars?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have had a problem with burning oil and smoking when I hit high rmp's. I have used Valvoline, Castrol, and Mobil 1...I was told by a few guys on here to run Royal Purple and i'll tell you what..This stuff not only slowed down my oil burning but it also helped with the smoking..I can barely see it now.

O no, Another oil thread, everyone get your flamesuits on. I have used RP, mobil 1, castrol, and valvoline. I have liked them all and never had a problem with any of them. I know there is a thread on how mobil 1 has been linked to failing tcts. I also know there is another thread on how RP was linked to coking on the greddy turbos. I am currently running the castrol gold bottle but will probably switch again to either mobil 1 ep or amsoil.

From my personal experiences, and seeing how fast it breaks down, I would avoid Royal Purple.

I use Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 and have had good results, and it is cheap. Every UOA I have ever seen about it has been positive, even with extended mileage.

I'd just go with a normal off-the-shelf synthetic (Mobil1, Castrol, Pennzoil, Valvoline) and you should be fine.

Amsoil and RP depending on availability.

Mobile 1 eats TCT.

RP eats Greddy Turbos as mentioned.

Car came with Royal purple, ehh just never cared for the stuff, switched to Mobil-1, my TCT got noisy, plus I burned a lot of oil. Now I used Valvoline which made my TCT quiet, but I still ended up having to replace it. I dont burn Valvoline. I always use 10W-30.

Jon, is the smoking under hard cornering, or just driving normally?

EVERY turbo I have ever seen come in for rebuild that has used Royal Purple has had severe breakdown. Breakdown so bad that it had the consistency of water, and was not lubricating anything. It wasn't limited to one specific weight either.

They couldn't pay me to run that stuff in my car.
