Thumbs up Picking up a new lift for my detached garage...

Anyone have experience with "PROKAR" lifts?

I only have 10 ft ceilings in my detached garage, so I'm limited to only a few companies offering 2 post lifts with under 10 ft tall post installed height.

This is the model that seems to meet my desired specs and available room:

Specifications:
Lifting Capacity 9,000 lbs.
Lifting Speed 50 sec.
Power Pack 2hp 220 vac
Amperage 20 amps
Low Pad Height 4 1/2"
Lifting Height with Adapters 75 1/2"
Width Overall 134"
Height Overall 111 1/2"
Shipping Weight 1500 lbs.

While its not a deal killer, I'd actually prefer a "clear floor" model - but those all seem to be the 12' tall 2 post units and run the cables/wiring over the top....too tall for the ceilings. The only drawback I can see with the little ramp in the center would be having to roll heavy equipment around the outside of the lift rather than straight through the middle.

I've seen other forums where people had the PROKAR 4 post lifts in their garages to stack cars above eachother.

There is a distributor in Phoenix somewhere, which means I can pick the lift up rather than pay some crazy freight cost. (I'd have to use my Lexus and utility trailer, I don't think the S would forgive me if I through this in the passenger seat...lol)

Biggest positive seems to be the price - $1695 for this setup.

I couldn't help but be shocked after the next Phoenix lift distributor qouted me $5500 + tax + some kinda customization to shorten the overhead cables and mounts... (Mohawk lifts)

Watching this lift failure video got a bit scary.

PROKAR doesn't carry any 10k lb 2 post lifts though - only 9, 11, 12, and 15...so I'm thinking its probably one of the ebay things.

In any case, I don't have any 10-15k lb vehicles to lift.

i use an 8000 lb lift everyday. it does just fine with any task i give it. full size 1 ton chevy, no problem go name brand and be done. and look at the lift. you could tell that lift couldn't handle much at all. just look at the construction before you lbuy. our 8000 lb lift had FAR better arms and posts. the structure, and design, as well as motor and metal thickness. are all far superior. just look and inspect, and you will be fine. but it won't be cheap for a nice one.

Bendpaks shortest 2 post lift is still 10'8" according to their site. Gotta have one that fits inside a 24w x 30L x 10h detached garage, at least until we pick up another 2 acres and build a large shop.

You can still do a 4 post. They don't need to be bolted down and are just as funtional.
