ivan, i noticed you were only doing between 86-89 on that turn, it felt sick, but i knew it could go more, but even there you were still handing it to that aston martin... but its not a race

If you're on R comps, sure. My Falken 452's seemed pretty hairy at anything over 88 going around...
Maybe I just needed to let it hang out a bit more? Felt like anytime I got up that fast, the car was sliding to the outside to much, or was that just the ever-so-accurate butt-g-meter?

Hm. What is there to work up to? You say just floor it and hold steady steering. What is there to f up? Sound pretty straight forward.
watching the speedo is a bad idea IMO. I used to do that and it's one way to reference how fast you're going. the problem arises if you have a benchmark speed, say 100mph, then you're set on going 100mph because you've done it in the past, or because CB does it.. whatever. if there;s oil on the track, your tires are worn out, the track is cold, you'll be aiming for that 100mph rather than paying attention to how the car feels.
9 times out of 10, you'll be several tenths faster if you put tape over the speedo and concentrate on how the car feels instead. chances are you *could* go faster, but you're just set on whatever speed you usually do.
and of course the biggest problem is you're staring at the speedo, not far down the track. from lots of experience, i'll tell you that you'll end up where ever you're looking. if you're looking at the speedo and the back end steps out, you really have no chance of saving it. if you're staring at the start finish line, your steering inputs will adjust accordingly and you'll more than likely pull out of it. not to mention your sensation of speed will be lower if you're looking 300 yards in front of you.
John, 90mph on FK452's is probably pretty fast!
Those tires don't grip so well..
Boof, I'd say get on the oval with some open track around you and experiment.. Learn how to slow yourself down out there (gas + brake) to keep the back end settled.. steer the car smoothly at 90mph to show yourself that there actually is some grip left to go faster.. look ahead and try to ignore the fact the wall is there!
What's funny is when I see people running hard evAry lap.. running the same crappy line and not using the time out there to do things different! Work on different lines through T1, oval speed + line, etc and then change it up.
Especially since it's usually crowded you might as well make some open track for yourself "play" a bit.. get your car out of shape, try evasive lines, etc!

yeah sure, and if you ignore what the car is telling you, you'll go spinning into the wall at 100mph.. that's the consequence i was referring to. if you can't control a skid, on a banked track at 100mph, then you're not "worked up" to it yet. i'm not saying you should be able to drift around the oval, but you should learn how to feel out a car when going that fast.
