I'm still amazed that this drive is going to happen. The more I think about it the more insane (by insane I mean sort of awesome) it sounds.

If you are planning to take side roads and stop to see sights along the way, you might be lucky to make 200 miles per day. If all out driving, then 400-600 per day is good ground coverage. If bad weather keeps you grounded, maybe even less than 200 per day.

This sounds like an awesome trip! I'd say 250mi/day sounds like a reasonable amount. I feel a big drawback is no radio on such a long drive but well worth it.

This is what I would do. Otherwise you will be bored as hell. Def stop into blowing rock. There is a little market there that makes some tasty sandwiches. I have driven most of the blue ride parkway a few times. Once with the S2000 crew, and a few times in other cars.

Yea def!

I am really excited for you! I wish I had the opportunity to do something this special when I picked up my CR. Having it delivered to the house on a truck was cool, but id rather do a crazy drive!

Books on tape are you friend. I went from Lexington, KY to Albuquerque, NM (1400 miles) straight through when I was driving my S2000 back from Indiana. Listening to books, instead of songs that I knew lasted on average of three minutes each and then doing the math in my stupid brain, worked out exceptionally well for me.

I'm still pushing for a side car or a wagon/trailer. I have extra wheels and suspension to donate to this.

You can make 500 miles in a day and still have fun if you can arrange for 200 miles of fun road, followed by a break, followed by 300 miles of boring interstate at night (as you are getting tired of the sun/wind combo). If you reverse it, you might be too tired to enjoy the fun road. Anyway, this works better if you have more reservations in advance so that you know you can drive until 10 PM or whatever. Do you have a way to keep the iPOD charged?
