Default Question On Clutch

Yesterday I was stopped at a red light and suddenly heard a clunk sound and felt vibration come through the clutch pedal.

At first I thought it was something with the motor but then it started randomly doing it again only when I had the clutch engaged while remaining stationary.

I can sometimes replicate the clunk when I am not moving and give the car some gas. The noise will occur when the revs come back down to nearly 1000. But the clutch has to be engaged otherwise I can make the clunk noise.

I opened up the slave cylinder to see if there was any missing fluid and it looks full. Since putting the top back on I was not able to replicate the clunk.

I have also noticed a click sound for some time but wanted it to get worse so I decided to post a video of that since I can replicate it 100% of the time.

Not sure if the click and "clunk" are related but before I call the dealer can anyone tell me if they think this is the Clutch Master Cylinder with the noise in the video below.

I had the clutch replaced a few months ago so the worse case is I'll get another free one but I like to help diagnose when possible.

Thanks,

seen this problem before from an improperly installed slave cylinder. did you do the CDV removal? who installed the clutch? how many miles ago? what kind of clutch was installed?

The clutch was fully replaced at the dealership with all OEM parts. It was about 3-4 months ago.

What is CDV removal ?

When the Rear main was leaking and they fixed it under warranty, I had them put in all new parts since the Labor was free. That included the Pressure Plate, Disc, Flywheel, Pilot Bearing.

I thought maybe that click was just some air that would require bleeding and I could wait until the next service to ask about it but I dont think I'm gonna wait any longer since I now also get a random thunking sound. When the car is idling and the clutch is fully engaged.

Thanks,

If you are sure it is related to the clutch install they did, then excercise your warranty and get them to look at it. If you are unsure or it is something else, they may charge you (probably will), since you are out of warranty. Just be aware when you go in. Or you could bring it to another shop. Your call.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly what this is! I had similar noises shortly after doing my clutch job.
Pull off your slave cylinder and check the push rod for damage. You may find that there is now a groove and possibly a little lip. That little lip is what is making the sounds because it is catching inside the seat on the release fork.
You don't have to buy a new one either. Just put it in a lathe and sand it down till it's nice an smooth.
Check the seat for similar damage and repair that with some sand paper till it's all smooth (maybe a Dremel on very low if your skilled with one). Make sure it's nice and clean put a dab of high temp grease in the seat put it back together and call it a day.

I appreciate the offer. The whole clutch and cylinder is still under warranty.

Based on everyone's feedback I told the Dealer the symptoms and that its probably related the clutch master cylinder.

Since it was also replaced at the time of the clutch I don't think they will have argue it. I hope the clunk is the clutch fork catching as you mentioned.

If it ends up being something completely different or not covered then Maybe I'll ask for assistance or head over to SOS .

I have almost 53k on the S but the whole clutch and cylinder was replaced about 4 months ago when the rear main seal leaked and had to be fixed.
