I just hit 10k miles. =*(** when i got my car end of november it only had 4900 miles, i wish santa got me a beater car this christmas, oh well.. -_- i was just wondering, do you guys get your oil changes at Honda? I had my last change at Honda, and it was a lot cheaper than the oil changes i got for my Rsx at Acura. I was wondering if you guys changed to synthetic oil from the dealership, or do you guys just change your oil yourself? And when would you recommend changing to synthetic? thanks.

I switched to synthetic at about where you are. I get mine changed at right honda. The fist time they did it, they inspected everything on the car, topped off all fluids, and washed it. Just got it changed again on fri. and was hoping they would wash it cause it was a mess from the rain last week, but they didn't I think they just did the full work the first time, cause it was the first time they serviced my car.

i don't let dealerships touch my car, esp after numerous horror stories i've read on the boards. oil changes are simple and easy to do, even if you're not a car nut.

i personally use amsoil 10w30 and k & n oil filter. it usually takes me about 20-30 mins, and it's all done.

no one treats a car as well as the owner and honda dealerships often seem not to know their own car all that well, seeing that the S is a different breed from their other models.

I have mine serviced at Right Honda and they wash it every time ( 2 so far)...Who is your Service manager? Bill Thornton is mine, and Andy is the only mechanic that works on the S. They even let me dog them some and still aim to please. So don't be shy about reminding them about the wash if they forget. They always offer it to the ladies!

Just make sure they are putting the right filter on. Most dealerships INSIST that the smaller, generic Honda filter is the one for our cars, but it isn't. I TRIED to buy the new version at Tempe and they looked at me like I was from outer space. They need to start reading their own TSBs...

I get mine done at my g/f's work. They wash the car every time for everyone that comes in there. Every dealer does that I've ever seen.

do it yourself. i personally wouldnt change over to synthetic that early. when i was on regular din oil, i didnt burn a drop (except break in) and when i switched to mobile 1 (@ 10k miles), i started to burn oil (more so than at breakin). went back and the burning is gone. plus its cheaper.

the only difference i found with mobil 1 was that my gas mileage went up(25mpg -> 28mpg) i guess this could justify the price difference. same cost for oil/gas overall. but burning oil just doesnt feel good to me. as for engine wear, i guess we'll find that out in the long run. synthetic isnt required nor recommended by honda. (but honda doesnt say its bad or anything either, they just dont say "we recommend" unless someone proves me wrong... ) they say something about if switching to synthetic, wait for xxxxxx miles.

in any case, i say do it yourself. if you use regular din oil, that's $5 for oil, $5 for filter, $0.50 for washers, and the pride that you work on your car yourself.

you all are some brave people. i won't even let my wife wash my car. seeing how many cars they have coming in and out every day, i'm sure it's probable that a rock might find a way on their sponge or something tragic like that. we can't have that!

and yes, people, i am that anal.
