Default Transmission issues - help diagnose

I have some issues with my transmission. 2006 with ~53000 miles on it. OEM synthetic fluid. OEM everything engine/drivetrain

1.) Stiff shifting going into the 2nd and 3rd randomly - doesn't grind, just stiff. not a consistent thing but I'd say 75%. sometimes goes away when transmission gets up to temp.

2.) Leaks from the clutch breather slot at the bottom of the transmission and some appears to be coming out of the slave cylinder boot area. This started either before or after I got my Clutch Slave cylinder replaced by the dealer about 3 months ago. I told them the transmission was leaking oil (clutch res wasn't low) and they (Honda dealer) ended up replacing the slave cylinder. note that shifting was not bad and the clutch wasn't going to floor. For some reason the leak went away and it came back about a month ago and then went away again.

more background:
- Transmission oil was WAY overfilled by dealer - Last Saturday I put the car up on jack stands, got it somewhat level and slanted a little to the rear, opened the FILL hole on the transmission and oil came GUSHING out (like you were pooring oil our of a bottle). I quickly plugged the hole before too much more came out. I double checked if the car was level, I put the rear up a notch so now the car is slightly leaning towards the front, unplugged the hole again and STILL there is oil coming out fairly quickly.

Will an overfill on transmission oil blow out some seals?
Will an overfill cause the transmission to have stiff, inconsistent shifts?
will an overfill cause anything to get damaged?

about the shift quality, I haven't tried bleeding the slave cylinder again yet so I know that might be a part of it. I think I will leave that up to the dealer though.

The car has a CPO warranty and also extra mechanical warranty on top of that. I mainly need to know what could have happened and what is wrong so when I go talk to the dealer, they can't jerk me around and this will get fixed asap.

Thanks!

Are you feeling the issues in the pedal and the shifter itself? As in two different issues? If the clutch pedal feels sticky and rough and not smooth you probably need to remove the slave cylinder on the transmission and inspect the ball and socket. The ball might even need sanding and polishing if a nipple has formed. The clutch fingers might also need to be lubed. My 04 had all if these issues.

Clutch peddle is not sticky or rough. When moving the shifter into 3rd from 2nd, it is hesitant to go in and needs some extra effort IMO.

Mine is an 04 and it feels like I'm shifting through marbles until everything gets up to temp. Then it feels like butter.

A overfilled trans will make shifting more difficult since the gears and synchros are not supposed to be submerged in fluid. That would cause a slower and rougher engagement do to the resistance of the fluid that could get better once the fluid thins out due to heat.

The input seal is a double lip seal that should be effective at keeping fluid from coming out but these seals are not usually designed to be really tight since they don't need to handle fluid resting up against them, just the occasional splash of fluid from the sump. So being overfilled the fluid is always ready to leak out by resting against the back of the seal.

So the trans being overfilled for a short time probably wouldn't harm the trans if remedied quickly. The part that I cant figure out is how they managed to overfill it that much...

Thanks for the reply. I think there is still some extra in there but probably to the level at which it shouldn't be effecting anything or up against that seal but it still came out after I reduced the fluid level.

I can only hypothesis that they did one of two things at the dealership
1.) didn't read the manual and they actually pumped in 2 full quarts with a fast pump and plugged it asap.
2.) they needed lift room and they made a tech do the trans oil change on the ground where dipshit tech jacked the car up on one side and filled her up

Service was done at Showcase Honda on Camel Back

With your CPO warranty can you take it elsewhere? I've had very good experiences with SanTan Honda when I had them do my pre-purchase inspections. There's a specific tech there that has a lot of S2K/NSX experience.

Give Mike C in service a call and he'll take care of you.

Yes.
I purchsed the car at Showcase. Hopefully they will support the returning customer well.. .

I've been to Santan. They never once recorded service appropriately on my purchased NEW 2008 Honda Civic Si over the course of 3 years and when I went to get the Carfax, nothing showed up. good physical work, bad paperwork/follow up. I love my car but I don't plan on having this S2000 forever. If have work done, it better be documented by the dealer, especially since it's actually a flippin Honda car serviced by HONDA... .
