What Is It About The S?
Ok... fine...
It has cheap leather, F1 dashboard - no analog dials, modicum power, and sells new for far less than the Porsche Boxter - but more than a Miata.
What is it about your S that you just dig?
Word?

Oh man... for starters I drove my friend's Mustang yesterday and even with the supposedly "torque" it felt like I was going inside a huge plastic box with a 9V electric motor. At the turns, I felt like I was going around the whole world. Not to mention it also felt like I was floating in the air despite the big wheels (20" I think). In the end, I took my friend on my S up to 9K revs and slightly aggressive on some turns and it was just astonishing. Something really special that you can ever accomplish in any average vehicle. Not even a Miata which is hundreds of pounds lighter.
Sometimes it takes to go back to a regular car to truly appreciate the S.

Let me be the first to answer...
I totally enjoy this car because it is by far the best bang for the money!
1. I LOVE the convertible top. In Arizona, we have so many days and nights where I can drive with the top down - especially July 4th!
2. I had a ball with my car right off the showroom floor, but I had a blast when I got it on the track! To experience what this car can do all-out is amazing!
3. I love the simplicity and attention to just driving a fine machine. All focus is on the driving experience. My S responds to every subtle input.
4. I love the way it looks. The S has a simple, yet elegant style that makes me look thrice.
5. I appreciate the quality... where it really counts. Forget about the fine appointments, but notice the attention to functionality of setup and safety.

Ford's recent development of the Mustang is a wonderful work of sculpured art. I think that the Mustang is a beautiful car that has tons of power. However, recent track events with my S have proven that my S can easily out-manuever the Mustang in every facet but straight-line acceleration. Unfortunately for the Mustang, the S will have gained so much time ahead through the corners and braking that the Mustang can't even catch up when the line breaks straight.
The Mustang is a heavy muscle car that is best suited for the drag strip. It is no match for the svelt S2000 on a road coarse.
For myself, the beauty of road racing is in the curves - and the S is an artist!

And also remember the S not only can have higher cornering speeds but also higher exit speeds. But well, a Mustang is more comfortable.
At least that right? Suzuka S and Red Stang=>
...
I have no experience in flat-out accelleration from a stop with a new 'Stang. I believe though that the 'Stang will out-perform the S in straight-line acceleration damned-near every time. But... Put a new 'Stang against an S on a road coarse and I'll put my money on the S.
I have come up on the new 'Stangs in corners to see them loose traction damned-near every time. It's like they "freak out" when they see the S in their mirrors!
Great car for the money... this S is!

I love the S for the feedback. No other car I've ever driven has been absorbed me into itself every time I climb into the cockpit
I love the S for it's simplicity. It's attention to detail. It might not be the most svelte interior, but the details were attended to.
I love how the S was engineered to be customized. Every project I've started, there have been nice little reminders that Honda engineered the car to be tricked out.
Most of all I love that I can't seem to take a drive in the S, no matter how short the trip or how rough the day/week, without the appearance of a grin on my face.

My love afair started shortly after I bought it. I took a buddy for a test drive with me and as we pulled into the parking lot of our destination he asked how it handled. I just chuckled.
I had to go almost all the way to the store entrance before turning 90

I bought an S2000 because it is a Honda, first and foremost. I've owned a CRX, 2 Civics, 5 Accords, and 2 Acura TLs and I can't say one bad thing about any of those cars. Everything Honda builds is as close to perfection as you can get for the money. Every Honda/Acura I've had has been flawless, safe, and absolutely dependable beyond belief. I had the original clutch in my 90 Accord with 230,000 miles when I sold it! The new soft top on the S is the first non-scheduled service I've done to a Honda, ever. Scratch that, I replaced the power antenna on an Accord once too.
Second is the beautiful lines of the car. In eighth grade shop class we made those CO2 cartridge race cars and mine was an S2000. This was about 14 years before the S came out, but it was like Honda read my mind and turned it into a roadster.
I love how the cockpit feels like it was custom tailored just for me. The seat feels absolutely perfect, the fixed position steering wheel is just right, all the controls are exactly where I would put them, and Oh My God!, the shifter is pure heaven (with a Voodoo countersunk knob). I would prefer that the speedo was not visible from the passenger's side, but that's more of a personal preference than a complaint.
I actually bought the S2000 in spite of the fact that it is a convertible. I think a fixed roof S would be lighter, more rigid, and therefore significantly faster. That being said, I love to drive with the top down and do so most of the time. But if Honda made a coupe S2000 I'd snatch one up in a heartbeat.
I could go on but I'm sure no one is reading this anyway so I'll sum up:
The S2000 is the most fun you can have for $30k brand new, period.

My favorite things about the car are the Convertible and the looks. I think its better looking than nearly all other cars on the road and I don't think it will look dated in 10 years from now. Some of the older corvetts like the late 80's look rather cheezy to me now, I don't think I will say that about this car in 10 years
On the reliability side however, You have had more luck in your accord at 230k miles than I have already had in this car at only 12k miles.
I had the Cable reel and Steering Angle sensor replaced last week. And depending on if replacing the rear tires fixes my steering unevenness I may or may not be too thrilled with the reliability aspect.
But I never imagined that I would like a convertible and now I can't imagine having another car without a rag top
