Unfortunately I think the answer is yes, it will close for awhile, but it wont be permanent. This is actually pretty typical of race tracks to go bankrupt and close down, only to re-open under new management. The RING is far too historic and special to remain closed forever. There are a couple of other race tracks with far less prestige in Germany that have closed and reopened in the past decade, so I expect the ring to pull through, but unfortunately nobody knows how long it will have to close until new owners surface...

U r probably right. I wonder what the government is doing about it? It's a pretty major tourist attraction.

Its closing because the Government supplied funding to a couple of entrepreneurs. They blew all the govt money and created this mess, which is why the govt wont get involved again. The Govt saw an opportunity to create a bigger tourist attraction, hence the mall (which is always empty) and the roller coaster that is too dangerous and has never even turned a wheel. SO they already put money into the ring to increase its possible earnings and create more draw for tourists, but it failed miserably. If you travel all the way to the ring, you want to spend time on the track, visiting the small towns, and going to the areas that already are main attractions, not the mall and roller coaster.

So the govt is no longer involved because they lost a lot of money already...

Bernie Ecclestone, billionaire owner of F1 has said he will not let it go under and buy it outright if he has to. Should be ok

That would be nice to go down in history as the guy who save the ring.

Yeah no way it closes. I mean all those car companies that now have shops right there someone will buy it. The question may become if it will remain a public road.

Is the Ring a public road, or private?
