WTB: Hardtop
Why do you guys think I put up a WTB hardtop in the local forums?
Instead of multi-quoting etc, here's a quick list
I don't want;
To ship anything
To order from a vendor and get screwed on fitment/quality/etc, then ship it back, then play more games
To buy an OEM hardtop for anything above 2500 (cue insults)
To pay above "new" price for someone's "used" OEM hardtop.
I want;
A hardtop
To inspect fitment/finish prior to purchase
To avoid shipping costs
To get "not new" prices
Ergo:
Looking to buy a hardtop. Preferably replica, painted berlina black, or unpainted CF. Locally.
To the next person that tells me to get an OEM hardtop for exorbitant prices due to it being a "good investment";
No.

You can pick it up in Long Beach and for the quality you get the price is fair.
I have a 2x2 double sided CF I got from them if you want to take a look at it.

Possibly because you wanted to buy a hard top and know that there are quite a few of us who troll these forums petty hard. Between the group of us we might be able to help you find one or know of someone who has one either locally or elsewhere. I mean, other than that I don't know.
I personally haven't attempted to read other peoples minds ever since the incident... I can't talk about it right now, it's still to painful...
Boom, there you go, listing out what you want and getting all sassy on us. Next time try it in the original god damn post. That would have solved the problem of anyone trying to help you out right there. Nobody insulted you or said anything negative about you at all. So I'm not sure where that's coming from.
You should get an OEM hardtop for an outrageous price because it could potentially be an excellent investment.
Yes.

Look we were just trying to help by givin some suggestions on options to either buy a brand new hardtop or offer up companies that have very good reputations for making good quality hardtops. I do still understand wanting to see it in person but I can tell you that rockstar handles their stuff if something does go wrong.
I was in this exact dilemma about 2 months ago. I either wanted a mint nfr oem top or I was just going to order one of the replicas. I ended up finding the exact oem hardtop for what I thought was a reasonable price. It came with every single piece of hardware and fit perfectly. It was not cheap but I know it will be worth what I paid as long as I take care of it. Do remeber that the msrp of oem tops were $4-5k and I you were to price out a cr top I think it comes to over $7k. I understand hardtop guy used to sell them for dirt cheap but that's the nature of supply and demand.
Bottom line we were only trying to offer our insite and opinions on the matter because many of us have been in the same spot. Good luck finding your top.

Look look guys, I bet the OEM one is all that and a bag of chips. You're welcome to donate to the "Don't get a replica, bro" fund. You even get to write it off on your taxes. Think of the savings.
S2kJer, I'd love to check it out. Did you go with the Mugen or the OEM rep?
Edit: PM box is full

I don't know where all of this hostility is coming from. I actually wanted to commend feez for his original post, it was very well put. Anyways, you'd be surprised how affordable an OEM HT can be if you are patient. The deals are out there, you just have to find them. For daily driving, OEM or OEM style really is best. The wrap around rear window really helps for visibility.
I'm just telling you this because I think you may be hard pressed to find a used HT for sale locally. While not impossible, you just may be waiting a while. You will have way more options if you are willing to travel a few hundred miles to get one.

I wasn't even being hostile, I just posted a list because the multi-quote sucks. Don't be so sensitive guys. I know the OEM is nice. I even know that the replicas can suck. This is the whole point of local transactions, so if the replica sucks, I can pass on it, rather than shipping it back or being upset because it's garbage and I have no recourse.
Edit:
Still taking donations on that OEM hardtop that you guys keep pushing so hard. Total collected $0

My 2 cents. In this thread, or delete it and start a new one, ask what REPLICA tops do local's own. Ask direct questions and go see them in person. Then you may be more inclined to buy through a vendor as suggested in this thread. You need to understand, and keep in mind that every single top, and every single S2000 is slightly different. What is lined up and fits one guys car, will not necessarily fit and line up on another persons car. So I understand wanting to buy local and check fitment, but understand that it is highly likely that you will still have to spend time, and possible money getting the top to fit on YOUR car.
With that said, that is why I suggest asking locals who own replicas if you can look at their tops. Also ask and learn how much money they have invested, how much time, and what was necessary to get an acceptable fitment. That should help you to find a vendor that sells a top brand new that has a good reputation, OR you can expand your search on a used top out of state, and at least be informed and have a decent idea what is needed.
yes I am all pro for OEM HT, but I will throw this out there, since the day I owned my CR, I have yet to get my HT to fit properly. I still get rattles, I still get wind noise. So even though OEM is OEM, its still not perfect.
I think the reason you have people preaching about the OEM top is because this discussion comes up frequently in AZ, and all over the boards. When people hear replica top, they get nervous and feel the need to make sure the potential owner understands to the full extent what replica means, and how it might SEEM cheaper up front, but once you add all the good quality hardware, seals, paint, fitment, etc etc, the replica is really no cheaper than an OEM top, and OEM will hold value, and is in a whole different league as far as quality. Not trying to agree or disagree, just share my view. Obviously since you are looking for a used replica, a lot of this doesn't necessary apply, but if you start upgrading seals, hardware, maybe paint, the used replica might not be that far off from the OEM top, if you find a good deal.
GL either way!

I can sense the annoyance in your posts, hence the hostile comment.

I did specify it would most likely be a replica. If someone wants to dump their OEM, locally, to someone with cash, the price is not unacceptable.

As far as replicas, the only one I have considered was the Forbidden Mugen double sided CF one. I figure CF will have the best resale since it can go on any color car. I saw one at the Wednesday meets and it looks NICE. There are other nice replicas like the challenge one, but it's not something I'd be interested in price wise.
If anyone else has a replica that they'd be willing to let me check out, let me know. Also, please post your gripes and complaints about it!
