It has been about 8 months since we've done a meet with a group drive. We have since gained a few new members around here, so I think it's about time we show these guys how the S2Krewe likes to have a good time!

We had some great success last year around this time with two meets in particular. The "Grub and Mugs" meet, and the Abita Brew Pub/Red bluff meet.

For those who were not able to attend, Grub and mugs was the brainchild of one 'Track309'. It consisted of a lunch (delicious Thai cuisine at one of Covington's finest) with a short, leisurely drive through the back roads of Covington afterward, lead by myself. The day ended at the north shore lakefront for some sunset pictures.

Here is a link to the Grub and Mugs meet.

The Abita Brew Pub/Red Bluff meet is a completely different beast. This meet was a joint venture between 'Track309' and myself.

The meet was originally just supposed to be a lunch at the Abita Brew Pub; however, for months prior there had been talk of a run to Red Bluff, a road near Monticello, MS (a short ~1.5 hour drive from the north shore). There was hesitation for such a run because of the distance, and no one, besides myself, really knew how great the road was (it is phenomenal! The best driving within hundreds of miles of here, as far as I'm concerned. Just ask the guys who attended.)

So being the sly dogs that we are, Huy and I decided to pull a quick one and spring the drive on the attendees at the last minute, once we were already in Abita (Red Bluff is a hop, skip, and a jump from there.) Reluctantly, they agreed. So after we finished our *delicious* meals and beer, we hit the road north of Covington and headed to the Bluff.

Upon arrival to the Bluff, the attendees were amazed at the sight before them:

After making over the "baby grand canyon" we got into our cars and drove the Red Bluff road. Miles upon miles of hairpin twists and turns in the middle of nowhere! It is hands down the best driving road in the area.

Here is a link to the Abita Brew Pub/Red Bluff meet. Tons of pictures!

So it is that time again. Lets pick a date and which meet we would like to revisit.

Do we do "Grub and Mugs" Version 2.0?
Or do we dare tackle "Abita/Red Bluff, the sequel"?

I propose a weekend date in Mid-January. Lets do it!

-Mike

I voted for Abita because of the Red Bluff drive but I'd be up for any good food. That Thai place we met at in Covington was also pretty tasty.

Yeah, set it up.....

How about we tweak it to "Mugs and Mudbugs" , crawfish after the run, by the lake before the sunsets?

Mike, have you been to Bosco's Italian Cafe on Hwy 59? Just thought we would change up the restaurant, unless you like to visit your "friend" at Thai Style Dessert anyone?

So is this a car club or an Eat club? Eat club that likes to drive

No one says that you have to drive speedy or dangerously. If you drive within your limits you shouldn't be a danger to anyone. That's why I like to stress that everyone run at his/her own pace (that's why I put faster guys up front, slower guys in the back, and stagger the starts by a few minutes). Red Bluff can be an enjoyable drive at a moderate pace.

But anyway, does this mean that I'll see you at NPR on the 10th?

I live just off of 59 and I've never even heard of it... Although I must admit, I'm not a big Italian fan, so I might have just put Bosco's in the back of my head with all of that other useless information! Have you heard good things? I can do without seeing my "friend" at the Thai place! Do you think they do erotic deserts at Bosco's?

I would hope that it is a car club that likes to eat.

Where do you keep getting these times from? Even if you count the drive back to the "best" bank, it would hardly be pushing 2 hours 45 minutes... if you're driving like an old woman.
