The article does point out that some Japanese cars are manufactured in America. Does anyone know what percentage of Honda's are manufactured here? I'm just curious.

I haven't read the article, but yea a lot of them are (dunno the percentage tho). Honda has at least three assembly plants here in the US and one in Ontario, Canada. Don't worry tho. All S2K (and NSXs and Integras, too I think ) are made in Japan. The easy way to tell is if the first character of the VIN is the letter J (J=Japan, 1/4=US, 2=Canada, 3=Mexico). I'm kinda curious, too now. Someone go to a Honda car lot and see how many VINs you can find that start with a J.

Last I heard, only about 10% of Toyotas here in the US were made in Japan. The rest are made here.

Here is some more info I found on a quick google search for those who might be interested.

http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/artic...95/article.html

It talks about the lines between domestic and foreign automakers being blurred and gives a few stats.

Sounds to me like this guy is just pissed because of the big 3 being in trouble. He starts worrying about his job security and starts making uneducated accusations about the import auto makers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't someone in his position do a little research before making a PUBLIC statement of this caliber?

I will say that there is some truth to his statement. if we ship our cars over there is a huge tax tariff on them. Therefore if we did maybe something of the same caliber then naturally it would benefit us.
