So it's the summer time, the days are longer, the sun shines brighter, and beer tastes so much better with your toes dug into the sandy beach.

I'd like to start some discussions about a possible beach meet (sans oil). Word is that the oil has not and will not reach the beach areas of Pensacola/Destin/Fort Walton Beach. Certainly my first choice of places to visit would be Destin, since it's very familiar, relatively close (~3-4hrs), and has Club LaVela (the biggest club in Florida with 20-some-odd-rooms).

I am able to get room discounts with Marriott properties, some other members have discounts with other hotels, and with our collective ability to search for great deals, I'm positive we can go for a weekend (2, 3 or 4day) on a budget.

Lets get the ball rolling and get some interest popping.

I'll start with the date... Personally I will not be available the weekend after the 4th of July because I will be in Baltimore for my brother's engagement party. So I am suggesting the weekend of the 4th [Fri July 2nd to Sun July 4th], the weekend before that [Fri June 28 to Sun June 30] and my last suggestion the last weekend of July [Fri July 30 to Sun Aug 1]

The sooner we can work this out the sooner we can book the rooms and have a number figure per person.

(since I can get awesome costs on the room, we can theoretically party for $50 per person for the weekend, plus gas costs, plus eating costs ... so maybe an investment of $130 total for the weekend)

 

I'm always down for Destin, usually go for a week every summer. I know I definitely would not be able to go that 1st weekend of July bc essence festival is going on and we'll be sold out at the hotel.

 

I so wanna do this. I will be out of town from July 14-20. Waiting for everyone to chime in before I make any decisions.

well since my dad is a old hag i'm voting for pensacola since its closer

from wat i read today the oil is 9 miles from Pensacola, hopefully it cant make it the next 50 miles to destin.

guess we will be testing the waters, literally
