Default Good starts

It's a well known fact we don't have any torque - so anyone got any tips on getting our baby off the line quickly without sounding like a loon? Reving to 4-5k rpm at the lights before letting go of the clutch does nothing for my sense of cool (or eardrums) but then bogging down at lower revs doesn't help either when Lexus' cruise off beside you (but going past them later makes up for it). Slipping the clutch isn't good for long term health. Suggestions?

A high rpm (6000 rpm or higher) clutch drop is about the only way to go with the stock car. If you can spare the change, put new rear end gears in. I just put in 4.44 but since you live in Japan where you probably don't worry so much about top speed, you should consider the 4.7 gears. This is costly but will give you "safe" low end grunt and you'll take off from a stop like a scalded cat.

xviper - nice work on the gears.

also thanks for the link on the yellow box, I might get one so I can switch the dash to mph when needed - (or unless anybody has a smart idea of making the JDM dashes behave like the ones that have dual speed - stupid Honda for not making standard parts )

Talking of switching the dash - I was quoted 200GBP for changing the speedo to work in mph from a company in the UK. Surely with a digital dash it's just a case of flicking a switch at the back?

you would think it would be as simple as that - but I guess the 200quid is for a new UK unit??

I think the yellow box would be very neat since it is only about $100 and I guess it allows you to switch it back and forth for continental driving purposes? I assume DVLA (or whoever) would except that - with a sticker to cover the Km/h and replace with mph for MOT's etc.

btw - have you done any further work on estimate for importing etc. would be very interested to discuss this,.

that doesn't sound bad at all .......

I have been told (by a guy in the pub ) that you would be better switching to a UK "chip" for the ECU, which manages certain sensors etc. in a different way from the Japanese chip. This would also give you the MPH/KPH change automatically (or so he says). This is

Oh yeah, the other thing that the UK "chip" does, is remove the speed limiter .... apparently ....
