Tips on seeing Japan?
So in two weeks some friends and I will be traveling Japan for a little over a week. What are the must do's when seeing Japan for the first time? I heard the ASM shop is a must any othres?
Well travel in Japan is rather expensive so i would recommend buying a Shinkansen train pass before you get here. They can only be bought outside of Japan and allow you to travel everywhere in Japan.
Where will you be going, Tokyo?
Finding workshops in Japan can be difficult and you should do some research as most workshops are located out in the country side.

I've been to Japan a few times. I've never bought a JR rail pass before b/c sometimes you need to travel on a different line. Unless you plan on staying for a long time, it might not be worth it to buy the pass.
I went to the Honda Collection Hall, but it is far away from Tokyo and it's not that easy to get to.
Otherwise goto Shinjuku for the shopping and night life. Akihabara to check out electronic stuff. Maybe check out an Onsen. Mega Web has a large Toyota Exhibit as well as a car museum and a Mall, all in one! Akasuka shrine maybe.

The JR rail pass can be worth it, depending on how much travelling you intend doing. It is valid on all Shinkansen trains (bullet trains), but as these are by far the quickest (and most expensive) way to get around, can soon pay for themselves if you travel extensively.
