Default Mobo/ram question

Wondering if there are any geeks out there that can help me, ive bought a gigabyte mobo and im having trouble running 4 x 2gb ddr3 1333 ram sticks the pc wont boot, only with 2 x 2gb sticks it works, all the ram sticks work when I run them individually they all work fine but its when I want to run all 4 x 2gb sticks I have problems, now does the mobo only support max 2 x 2gb sticks?

The specs say "supporting up to 4 GB of system memory".

Last time I checked 4 x 2 equaled 8.
