Default top gear vs 5th gear

been watching the latest episodes of 5th gear as top gear is on hiatus, and i have to say, 5th gear is a terrible motoring program. i just cant like it. it doesnt create the excitement that top gear does. the skits are not as entertaining, and they often review pretty mundane cars (which im sure is fine, if ur in teh market for a mondeo or camry)

also, the yanks are shooting their version of top gear called "gear". apparently they will have a celebrity host, jay leno and jerry seinfeld are rumoured to be in the running as the hosts. this will either be a great show or cheesy yank crap

5th Gear isn't as good as Top Gear, though I do prefer Tiff to JC. These days both shows seem to be trying to out perform each other with silly tests. Some are amusing some really are not.

As much as Jay Leno or Jerry Seinfeld might be car buffs, I just don't see them as appropriate hosts.

They'd be as good as Glen Ridge on "the car show"

5th gear is trying to buy viewers with their weekly giveaway of a car. and as far as jay leno not being a good host, lets see.....host of the tonight show with jay leno since 1992, and he took over from legendary johnny carson. hmmmm, ur right, he wouldnt make a very good host of a tv show

Of the two, I prefer Top Gear, but Fifth Gear is much more informative and technical. Top Gear is more about the entertainment of watching three blokes and the Stig getting up to some mischief with cars most of us can't afford. Jeremy Clarkson has a lot of character, and I'm sure he alone draws some viewers to the show each week to find out what absurd comical act he finds himself in.

Fifth Gear provides more technical content on a larger range of cars and it has a couple of drivers with some real racing credentials (Tiff Needell and Jason Plato). Even Vicki Butler-Henderson is handy behind the wheel.

The last two or three seasons of Fifth Gear have been immensely better than previous seasons and I've been enjoying it.

Top Gear - entertaining

Fifth Gear - informative, less nonsense. What Top Gear use to be like, except without Jeremy.

I love Tiff and Vicki. I even loved them when they were on Top Gear with Jeremy. (This was pre-comedic crap Top Gear).

jay leno could possibly be the best host of a car show in the history of tv car shows.

the budget on that show will be huge.

I prefer Top Gear because of the entertainment. I walk away without really having learnt much but it is the only car show my wife will watch.

For strictly informational stuff there is always the interweb and a myriad of car mags.

There was some youngish knob on Top Gear that was terribble (not one of the old/regular hosts).
