Default victim of internet banking fraud

well after all these years of using online banking, i finally got done. they took $5000 out of my bank account. im with st george and use online banking fairluy often. i also use the internet a lot, i dont watch tv at all as i watch it all thru the internet so i dl a lot of stuff

anyway, the bank must have called me yesterday, but i was driving and didnt answer the phone, they called my house and left a message to call them back. i called them this morning and they asked me about the transaction. i said nope i didnt do it, they said well they cant cancel it now as its gone thru and most probably withdrawn already. but ill get my money back but it takes about 21 days

they closed my internet banking down until i clean up my computer. it was most probably trojans and other viruses. who knows
im running avg and adaware and spybot, but im not so confident about them now

what software do u people run. i have tried a few, but some r really resource hungry and slow my computer down like crazy.

anyways, be careful with ur banking stuff

Same thing happened to me on Jan 2nd. THey phoned me and asked if I had made a $4600 payment to a copmany. They also made Cash Withdrawls from my Credit card.

Im with ANZ, it took 10 days to fill out 5 forms complete a stat dec and get a police #. Got all my money back and all extra charges were wiped from my account.

Overall im never using internet banking again. not worth the trouble.

i dont need to fill out forms, they just said they will chase it up, no police forms or anything.
it certainly makes internet banking seem unsafe

I don't use IE anymore. Found it was a magnet for trojans and viruses. I use Opera now instead. Much more stable and better security. Also your bank should now have SMS authorisation that is sent to your phone for any transfers to new accounts. Gives you that added protection.

HSBC introduced an extra security device for their online banking, now you need a username, a password and this small device that generates a new 6 digit number every time you press the button. So even if someone gets your username and password it is useless without the code generator.

It is a bit of a pain but I guess worth it to avoid this problem.

Yeah there some other bank that has the option for an RSA token. Can't remember which one, but it refreshes its pin code every 1minute that is synch'd with their servers. Another added option.

Bendigo uses tokens too. I would not use internet banking without a token, not a chance.

I only decided to join the Internet Banking revolution recently. I'm with Commonwealth Bank and they send me SMS's with codes before I can transfer funds and whatnot. I'm taking this sort of security isn't enough?

I also have a PayPal account which seems pretty safe. I hope.

I don't want to get a Mac either. My stupid VAIO cost me a fortune, hence why there is very little in my bank accounts anyway
