Default VoIP

I'm seriously thinking about dropping all my PSTN lines and running my lines through VoIP.

When I last looked into this the line quality was hopeless. It seems to have improved a great deal.

Does anyone have any feedback on line quality? And on what sort of connection?

I use an old Commander system with 4 phone lines and a separate fax and modem line. Thinking of dropping back to 3 lines and using fax software to manage faxes as it's mostly junk these days anyway.

Netcom do some boxes that have connections for 4 PSTN phones and an ethernet line. Would be perfect for my set up.

Does anyone know if there is an issue porting phone numbers over to VoIP?

Porting the numbers (see the self promoting post by resonance networks)

free landline to any phone in australia. normal mobile phone costs. 20c untimed international calls.

as for quality its a bit better than a mobile but can't compare to the normal landline

and also i'm yet to experience the phone for when i use up my cable and get capped to 28.8k

wonder how bad the quality will be then

Fark... I just spent 3 hours looking at voip pbx stuff. My head is going to explode!

Most interesting find is trixbox (a variant of Asterix).

All this looking around made realize that I may not need that skype over cellphone or skype type at all since my Dad runs an Asterix box at work and I found out tonight you can configure a remote extension. So all I need is an IP phone and them to give me an extension number. :-) :-)

Oh, and one of my wife's relos uses Engine over Unwired. He is pretty happy with it but whenever he calls us is like talking to someone standing across the street ... in the rain!

This is the product I'm looking at:

http://www.netcomm.com.au/VoIP/busin...hardware1.php#

If they will port numbers I'll get the 440.

If not I'll keep one line and use the 431.

Aus - we have swapped over to voip 2 months ago. We use Mynetphone and have kept our PSTN lines in (like you we had a 4 line Commander system). By keeping your Telstra lines you're still covered if voip system goes down, power goes off, and you can still dial out using Telstra at any time etc - plus you can chop off Telstra and go full voip when you know its all fine for you.. We use Aterix and Linksys SPA942 handsets.
Mynetphone small businessa account for 3 lines out is $49.95/month including 500 "free" local (ie Australia wide) calls per month and USA is 1.9-2.3 c/min and mobiles are 15c/min. We started off with Gotalk but call quality was woeful, switched to Mynetphone and have been very happy.
If ya need some help PM me or call me and I'll fill you in with full details. My mate's company in Sydney did the install and I can put you in touch with him if you'd like full info

I use SIPME for the occasional long distance call. I just use the $10 prepaid option rather than have any sort of plan. The software I use is X-LITE.

I don't use it all that often, so this is great for me, as it has no monthly minimum cost.

Well, go on then. I'm after a gateway with at least four FXS ports. Not fussed about FXO ports as I have a very reliable IP connection.
