Default Wireless broadband problem

Recently, we signed up a 24 months contract with 3 wireless on a 3Gig limit per month. Problem was at the end of each month, we would receive bills for around $300 - That's for downloading a few mp3 songs and couple of 10mb programs from our end. Having used broadband for a number of years, this has never happened before.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and how to fix this problem?

Is optus wireless a better choice of network? cos we are seriously considering switching to optus but don't want the same thing to happen.

Thanks

Isn't 3 wireless a dongle card? I don't think you can steal from those they plug into your pc.

You might have a trojan that is d/ling w/o you knowing. Check your usage like you would a phone bill then complain and for the next month keep notes on what usage you each estimate then compare the next bill.

Austblue is right, I have a sim card attached to the modem so no one else can dl from me. This is where I get confused cos how else can I dl?

Also the laptop I am using is a brand new laptop, I don't believe there are trojan, but I will definately check that out.

I spoke to the technical department from 3 and they said I dl 2 gig on a weekend which 9/10 of the time my compter was switched off?? It just doesn't add up.

As black said iinet have freeware programs that allow you to track your daily usage, do 3 have anything similar? I've used a telstra turbo card and if your 3 card performs similarly I'd say it'd take a whole w/e to d/l 2g.

Dispute the payment and escalate to management and tell them you're not accepting the claims.

Actually my first advice would be go to www.whirlpool.net.au and look around over there for an answer. If its not already discussed start a thread and you'll get better assistance than here.

3 only shows the remaining credit on the account, which is not too much help.

I will try that website and see what they come up with.

Thanks for your help guys.

You're not roaming are you? If you're outside of the 3g area you would be using GPRS which charges at 10c/Mb.

$15/month for 1G sounds like a good deal. Do you know if the contract based on the modem only? i.e if you want out can you just give back the modem?

Definately not roaming cos it costs around $1 per mb which is quite dear.

I have already made a request to cancel the contract through obudsman, as 3 was quite difficult to deal with. I am in the process of returning the modem. so hopefully get the refund of $400 something for exiting contract early.
