Default Diff Help!

ok guys, i'll try and make this short and sweet.

I am over trying to source a diff for my 2001 S, i just simply cant find 1 anywhere...

My diff whinds between 90 - 100 km's

it also crunches when i turn into car parks with the clutch engaged.

I know that these are bearings causing the whinding and the crown and pinion chewing on itself but my question is....

i would like to be pointed in the right direction of what other options i have with buying aftermarket products to strengthen the diff. I use the car every day so please dont mention to change the final drive as i personally like it and it suits the type of driving i do.

Also

I would like it if you guys could post up some expected prices and websites/places where i could buy these parts. I am not really knowledgable about diff's so please try and keep this simple.

I just think that if i am going to have to rebuild my diff i would like to know what i can do/buy to prevent this from happening again sooner.

I might aswell say also, if any1 has a diff that is in good working order, please pm me as i am in the market to purchase 1.

Any advice is much appreciated. (Im based in melbourne's west)

I would get it opened up first as it may be economic to rebuild rather than replace.

Trouble with that is the downtime. From the moment you pull the diff until you replace it with a rebuilt one the car is off the road.

Hmmm sounds expensive =) try www.scienceofspeed.com I had that problem when I bought my car and 2 months into ownership the news had me in tears I rebuilt the diff with an OS giken 1.5 way LSD so far so good I've clocked about 30,000 Km on it not a single complaint. Unfortunately can't tell you where to get stock gears as I upgraded my final drive. maybe one of the other members could probably chime in to help out on this? From experience I'd get a mechanic to pull out the diff and inspect it to see if the Housing is buggered if not you save heaps there ($847.00 AUD to be exact). and the 1.5 way LSD will cost about $1750 AUD. All mentioned costs exclude shipping. Most likely you'd need a new crown and pinion as well and also a Shim kit from honda. Ball park figure for all of the above mention with labour and parts excluding the diff housing is around 5 Grand from my experience. I'm looking to sell mine but doubt that you'd be able to wait til i get my replacement (at least another 3 months). as for strengthening the diff this diff will be more than enough for your street daily driving. And if you think 5 Grand is alot wait till you hear the quote from Honda LOL I called up and the guy on the phone said to me. "Are you sitting down? have you got a glass of water ready...... 8 Grand just to land the entire diff at the shop! no labour no nothing just a clump of nice oem metal) so there you have it. I'm a relatively new to these forums and this is one of my first Posts in helping others I hope I've covered everything. If there is any other questions you'd like answered I'd be more than glad to help you out. Good luck YLDS2K!

Wow, 5 grand, 8 grand I'm pretty sure you could land a PuddyMod fully built reinforced diff in Aus for around 5.

Keep in mind this is with an OS Giken centre. Chances are the centre doesn't need replacing and using an aftermarket one won't make the diff any stronger.
