Recently I've been having problems locking first gear into place.

I think it's in but when I engage... well I find out it isn't. I actually have to put it into neutral and then push it back into first. If I try to push it further I hear a gear grind.

I'm worried the same thing might happen on a hill

What could be wrong? The colder temps? The clutch?

It doesn't happen all the time though. I just went for a spin. About an hr & it happened twice!

So far 14,000km

tks.

I experienced this for a couple of months but then the problem just went away of its own accord (not a Honda BTW ). Sorry, can't help further.

I'm getting a bit worried. This started last week and already I'm having the problem extend to the 2nd gear.

It sounds like your clutch may be dragging.

i had a similair problem as well, start of the year. My first gear didn't wnana go in, like the groove to slide it in was blocked off.

i jsut got pissed kicked my rim, next thing u know it works. but I may consider changing my trransmission fluid completely, i dont' want something like this to happen again, like u mnetioned, iimagine your up on a hill. and mym bbrass button clutch doens't help either in that situation

I get this too, but I can tell you how to avoid it; When selecting first gear, push the clutch in and select immediately after depressing the pedal. It's worse when the gearox is cold, you gotta select quickly.

Maybe someone who knows gearboxes can explain why this works....it's something to do with the gears still spinning when you select.
