my car DRINKS oil. This can't be normal. 00 model.
Hi guys, i know there's heaps of threads on oils and all s2k's especially early models drink oil, but i think mine does a little more.
it's a 2000 model.
Mods: - skunk2 megapower 60mm dual catback
- k&n FIPK intake
I use amsoil 10w30 fully syn. 100 bux a bottle!
Filled the oil up to the top of the dipstick (where it says max, relax ).
500 - 1000km, depending on how often I hit vtec, it's below the marker where the oil needs to be.
This CAN'T be right. What can it be? No oil is leaking, it's literally drinking it. And it's not like I'm using shi* cheap crap.
The car drives smoothe, everythings SWEET! I haven't driven another s2k but she goes and drives very nicely.
Any ideas guys? help

I'm pulling figures off the top of my head, because I can't be f@#ked searching (that's your job), but I think up to .5 litres per 1000km is still considered acceptable.
Using the most expensive brand doesn't necessarily give the lowest consumption.
If your car is a 2000, I'm guessing it's done enough km's to warrant a higher viscosity, like 10w40, which will almost certainly lower consumption.

jowjeh, as your car is an earlier model S2000, I'd start using a higher viscosity oil. Your engine has probably experienced more engine wear over the years and the lower viscosity oils won't cut it. Try a 0/5/10-40 oil. Change your oil after every 5,000km and you should be right.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. She's done about 117000 k's.
So 10w-40 should be better you think? I understand it's going to drink a lot more than my ford laser for example, however I just want to make sure my cars not F*****
I think before I tried 5w-40 but it didn't appear to help, however that was what I first and was originally confused, so I'll try again.
Also to confirm, i do have to top up as soon as it goes below the L mark on the dipstick right? That line from L to H, is that about .5litres worth?

I will try heavier oil and compare the two After about 1000 k's, it went from the H to a bit below the L. Just a bit. I filled up about .5 quart and it's back to H.
That sound about right?

Yeah, some people just shouldn't own s2000's.
I was doing the same sort of cycle, topping up, driving for 500km's and then having to top up about 3 quarters. It was even worse if I hit VTEC a lot.
