Default oil usage in VTEC

I've been searching the forums for threads on this problem. Found a few. But am unsure of how "common" this actually is.

I've only noticed it recently. After the flat run though 1,2,3,4 to 9000RPM I checked the oil and it's now 2 X's down on the dipstick.

the car still has low km's but is already broken in (as per my battery not charging thread). Will this change over time? At this rate I think if I was in VTEC for a long time I'd loose all oil.

What's everyone's experience here?

wil..

Wilch, if you're losing oil there's something wrong. Vtec or no Vtec.

We have plenty of S2000's that have spent all weekend driving around Phillip Island - Vtec all the way - and not a drop of oil used.

Even those that have sent out a puff of white smoke at Honda corner have found it difficult to notice on the dipstick.

Apart from the regular change every 5000Kms I have never put a single drop in mine.

I have found that on long runs with VTEC use, I use no oil but after a fortnight of town driving, I have to top it up.

I did a fast run up to Armidale earlier in the year and took spare oil but didn't need it, but I do regularly top it up at weekends after doing a a few weeks of "rush" hour driving only.

My S2000 has over 61,000 on the clock and I have read many threads about oil usage.

I didn't start checking my oil until after about 45,000 and this was after I had read many threads and had a colleague with a newer car that had an engine failure.

My car has been properly serviced every 10,000 and when I checked it I had done 1 track day at Wakefield, a fast two day run to Mudgee, a two week trip around Indy through New England and Sunshine Coast plus many weekends of flying around the Central Coast and Hunter.

When I checked the oil it was at the very bottom of the dip stick, way past the X's! Now I can feel the car tightening and being less responsive when the oil drops.

None at all, I had no idea! It was a huge surprise to see it that low but it doesn't appear to have harmed it. She still loves to rev!

wilch,
I've made it a point to check the oil every fortnight and to get it changed every 5,000 kms. From what I see, some cars suffer whilst others don't.

Bummer.
