Default Petrol

Hi All,

today, I had so much thought, That i did a really stupid thing today, I went to BP and accidently poured 8liters of 91 octane in my car .

Stopping immediately, I ran in and payed the 8$ and went back out to pour 98 OCT.

Will this cause any dramatic side effects on the car??

Thanks in advance!!

As long as you only put in $8 and then filled up the rest with 98 octane this will easily bring the overall RON of the tank to > 95RON which is what is required.

If he had filled up a full tank of 91RON, what could be the possible consequences?

Ive been using Mobil 8000, 98RON, now that you mentioned 95RON I should use 95 rather then 98 even when on the Mobil website it states the following:

Which cars will benefit most from Mobil Synergy 8000?

All cars will benefit from using Mobil Synergy 8000. The most benefit will be experienced by high performance and turbo charged/supercharged cars, which require high octane fuel to achieve their peak performance levels. These vehicles have complex on board diagnostics that can optimise performance to make the most of the additional octane in the fuel.

Stand back for imminent explosion..

No shouldn't be something to worry about. If I'm not mistaken our cars can run on 91octane.

Honda Service manual for 00-03 states

"Premium UNLDEAD gasoline with 91 Pump Octane Number or higher"

The psychotic monk suggests no VTECing for this whole tank of fuel as punishment to remind you never to do this again.

In 1999 & 2000 this was discussed a lot because in those days premium fuel was not as easily available (especially in country areas) as it is today.

At one early owners meting we were told by the Honda Aust Technical Manager not to be alarmed about it. If you were to fill up with standard fuel the engine management system will sense the difference and restrict the engine to 8000 or 8500 RPM. No damage done.

At one orginized drive quite a few of us were forced to fill up with standard when the place we had chosen for our mid-trip pit stop had run out of premium. Nobody suffered any ill effects.

So, if the worst you have done is to put just 8 litres into a full tank then you have absolutely nothing to be concerned about.

I am pretty sure there is an E10 suitable sticker on MY06 petrol door.
Not that I have ever used anything but 98
