Default 2011 F1 Technical Reg Changes

Here is a small article on formula1.com about the changes next year. http://www.formula1.com/news/feature.../11/11579.html

No adjustable front wing, and instead an adjustable rear wing that will activate when the driver is within 1 sec of the driver ahead at predetermined points on the track. I Don't know how this will turn out next season. I didn't know there was going to be a predetermined weight distribution. The return of KERS will be interesting. The '09 season, only Ferrari and McLaren used KERS the entire season. It will interesting how the other teams will integrate it and if Ferrari and McLaren have made advancements to KERS.

because of the kers package there is a weight allotment increase to 640kg with front-rear weight distribution, which is expected to be regulated to 46.5% front, 53.5% rear. now riding on perelli tyres. and if thats not enough of a challenge for the engineers add in this optional predetermined point on track, with in 1 second of the car ahead, electronically activated movable rear wing. the wing thing is just silly. the track marshals have a hard enough time metering out the current rules infractions, this one will be in the courts early and often.

Oh yaa I heard about the increase in weight. This will suck for the bigger drivers, so it makes it tougher to move the ballasts around.

I'm not convinced of the efficacy of the movable rear wings - from what is written, it sounds like there is minimal driver control of a "tech" that is intended to improve passing... which sounds too much like "someone" controlling the amount of passing - too contrived for my taste.

Having typed that, I am very eager for the testing season to begin

the increase in weight is meant to help bigger drivers, so they have more ballast to play with.

i like that they are trying to increase passing, but this seems overly complicated. why does it have to be only at specific points on the track? that means for each race, someone has to determine this and setup some kind of controls to accomplish this. seems ridiculous. there should be an easier way.

I thought that it would be more advantageous for smaller drivers because you have more freedom to move the weights around compared to a bigger driver. I guess it will help the bigger drivers that they have a set on the weight distribution.

The exception of minimal parts solely associated with adjustment of the section, no parts of thesection in contact with the external airstream may be located any more than 355mm from of the carcentre line.
