AJ moves to NASCAR.......

I watched the final IROC race this season and I was just reminded of why I hate NASCAR & ovals. Draft-bump-draft-lead-draft-spin, what no penalty? I don't call that racing. Who will win on the last lap? It is up for grabs between a half-dozen cars. Felt more like watching roulette than racing.

You and I do not agree
Unfortunately, one of us is trying to talk about "Moneyball" and the business of building up a successful baseball team and the other one is just chanting "Yankees Suck!" over and over again.
IMO, the stupid one here is me, trying to have a conversation with the "NASCAR Sucks" guy who obviously isn't thinking on anthing other than the cheerleader-soundbite level.
It's kind of a problem when that cheerleader is also the forum moderator -- it explains why so much of this forum is just the same 5-10 F1 fans posting the same "Honda is going to win" and "Ferrari rules" crap over and over again.

Good grief Mike... If you expect all of us to love NASCAR it is a foolish thing to hold onto. I have a great deal of respect for what NASCAR has accomplished in this country, and clearly I appreciate what they have done to save Watkins Glen from turning back into a farmer's field, but I just don't follow them. I don't hate them and I'm not saying they suck, I'm just saying how they race is sort of silly to me.
Part of what goes on here is teasing, and I suspect you may have lost sight of that. I have lots of friends who love football and they give each other shit all the time about the Bill suck or the Steelers are great or the Cowboys will ride again or whatever. It's no real big deal, it's just sort of the way it is. That too is why we have these Honda is going to win threads, it is after all what many people hope for, and that's great.

Mike, I've read enough of your posts to see you love to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. I said I thought it sucks AJ made the move out of Champ. I don't care if you agree or not.
I don't follow NASCAR, except when they do go to road course, and I have a good idea who the really top drivers are in their series when it comes that type of racing. That type of racing holds no interest for me. I personally agree with Doug in that I find circle racing at that level boring. I also find street courses boring, so it's not like Champ is doing things right either IMHO. I'll take the SCCA nationals at a course like Mid-Ohio over any of them.
No matter who it is, it's road courses that I love watching - be it Champ, IRL, LeMans series, whatever.

But I don't see how that is any worse than people who know that the European Grand Prix is in Germany and which color of camera mount goes with which driver on the Super Aguri team.
Where did you read for a fact that Katherine's rear wing was 'used' and that was the cause of it failing prematurely? What do you think all other teams were using? PKV is one of the 'higher end' teams in CC but even the, do you think FCR or NH use a brand new wing every event they go to? I'm not saying it wasn't used, but I really don't think it was 'repaired' or in a condition that anybody would have risked putting a driver in if they knew it would have the chance of failing.
NASCAR is benefiting from the open wheel split that Tony George created. He's original business sucked and now it resembles what he was trying to get away from when he started it (way to go Tony!). I don't think NASCAR is the most technologic advanced series in the World or in North America... the reason why drivers like JPM, AJ and Sam Hornish Jr are going to NASCAR is because of money. There is a TON of money in NASCAR because it's so popular these days. Don't confuse money with the best racing, cars or drivers in the world. Last I checked, most of these NASCAR drivers don't know what it's like to drive in the rain or make a right hand turns... they even have to hire somebody else to do there jobs when they hit Watkins Glen or Sonoma. Of course, that doesn't apply to ALL NASCAR drivers... just the majority. I love to see a race car series where 50 year olds are still competitive and 'bumping/rubbing/whatever' is part of racing...
That takes no finesse...

it delaminated....it was a used piece, and was then "repaired".
