Newspaper slams unfair treatment for Hamilton
Monday, 23 July 2007
The Spanish press has reacted with irritation to what it describes as a "favour for Hamilton" by the Nurburgring marshals on Sunday. Spain's always partisan newspaper Diario As, whose countryman Fernando Alonso closed to within two points of his McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton by winning the European grand prix on Sunday, reckons the track-workers behaved unfairly after Briton Hamilton slid off the circuit. "With a crane they helped him get going again while the rest of those in the gravel, like Scott Speed, watched in amazement because their cranes took them away from the track rather than back to it," the newspaper marvelled. 'As' claims the preferential treatment partly explains why Speed's team Toro Rosso refused to make its usual official comments in a post-race press release. Jenson Button (Honda), Adrian Sutil (Spyker), Nico Rosberg (Williams) and Vitantonio Liuzzi (STR) similarly aquaplaned at turn one, but only Hamilton was able to return to the track.

Maybe Hamilton was the only one who managed to keep his engine running at that corner? Dunnno.
Anyway, the officials should have red-flagged the race immediately when the third or fourth car ended up in that corner. It was a very dangerous situation - heck, even the safety car nearly got hit! Doing the SC for a few laps, and then later red-flagging the race was, IMO, the wrong approach.

"F1's governing body has given Lewis Hamilton's controversial crane-lift out of the Nurburgring gravel trap a clean bill of health. Some observers had wondered if McLaren's championship leader and rookie sensation had received preferential treatment, after the similarly stricken cars of his rivals were hauled away from the track rather than back to it. But the Times says the FIA 'confirmed that the incident ... was legal'."
so, what's the next non pro-ferrari thing you guys wanna bitch about?

^ no shit sherlock, we are asking why because in the past this was never seen and the opposite always happened. In fact I remember people bitching when MS was merely pushed out of the gravel by corner workers and everyone whined that he was illegally assisted, yet here we have a McLaren being picked up out of the gravel and allowed to rejoin while other are taken off the course....doesn't add up.
So answer the questions - why was Hamilton's car the only one moved? Why were the other cars not allowed to rejoin at the back of the grid when the race was stopped?
