Default Engine changes for CART,WTF!!!!!!

So Cart announced that they will stick with turbo charged engines, BUT it will all supplied by Cosworth!!! Next thing you know, all the chassis will be supplied by one company!
So that'll probably mean no more Honda, or Toyota. This will really suck!!

Damn, I didn't know they could do that? How does that make the sport competitive if there is only 1 engine provider?
I agree. WTF!?!?

Wouldn't having only one engine supplier make it _more_ competitive; and _more_ sporting?

But isn't that like having the same football players for every football team? It would make it more competitive, I guess. But would it be as interesting?

I mean, I thought CART was supposed to be a competition btwn automakers as well as racing teams? I guess I shouldn't say too much since I don't keep up w/ this sport.

WOW so last year last time, CAST announced they will go NA forcing Toyota and Honda to leave. Now they are reversing their decision and staying with the Turbo but saying that the engine unit will only be supplied by Ford?????

My question is what are the officials over at CART smoking? It must be some really good sh!t.

I happen to like multiple suppliers, but I was just trying to make a point. F1 is quite often a matter not of driving skill, but of horsepower and reliability (don't flame me, I know very well that great drivers can excel in shitty cars - we're talking 'average' F1)...

Doesn't IROC provide not only identical engines but identical cars for all drivers? That sounds to me as competitive as possible: the series should be won by the best driver, rather than an average driver in a superior car.

You can (rightly) argue that it takes away one of the competitive aspects of the series: the difference in engine performance. But it adds to the other competitive aspects: handling and driver.

The series will be different, but not necessarily worse.

Man, you guys haven't been following CART too closely have you? Honda announced last October that they were leaving CART after this season. That's old news. Toyota has made it pretty clear that they aren't going to be back and Ford has too. CART tried to hold out an olive branch to the IRL by adopting their engine specifications and Tony George shit on it.

Cosworth, which is owned by Ford, has been offering this spec engine as a possibility since last Fall and CART decided up until now to try and stay with the IRL spec engine. Now it is clear that using that engine would do nothing to help their teams that want to run in the Indy 500 and CART has a long history with the turbo engines. Road courses require more power than ovals to accelerate out of the corners and the turbos will give them this power. I think it's good. It will keep costs down and let CART keep those glorious turbo engines. Remember, NASCAR is basically a spec series and its popularity doesn't seem to be hurt by it.
