I have to say my money is on Ferrari.
Schumacher will be very strong and I would like to see Barrichello do a better job than last year, not that he did a bad job, but he could have been better. I'm pleased with the way he works with Michael and teammates' getting along is a very important part of winning a championship!

Williams should be a good team to watch. The BMW program just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Brother Ralph is a great driver, maybe it really is in the genes! Montoya is going to be on the podium this year, I do not doubt that. I suspect Williams/BMW is Ferrari's biggest challenge.

Kimi Raikkonen is the obvious wild card with McLaren. David is a very good driver but not someone I really find myself backing. Team McLaren is okay but now that Mika is gone I'm not expecting great things from the team. David will get some wins, don't get me wrong but Kimi I suspect will make some big errors and cost the team points. The one thing with Kimi, we could all be surprised and he could turn out to be a very good driver, time will tell.

Then there are all the rest...

I hope BAR does better than Jordan because I have had it with the political crap of Jordan since they fired their best driver last year.

I would like to see great things for J.V. and BAR. I hope they get the Honda package together and get some serious points!

When I go to races I always have to tip my hat to the Orange team. These guys bust their buts in testing. They are trying! They are working! I hope they have a good year because I support teams that are not afraid of good old hard work.

Jaguar. Give me a break! They were a better team when they were Ford. Eddie gets under my skin. Enough on that.

And of course, I hope I get TV coverage this year!!!

Constructors = Ferrari
Drivers = Micheal Schumacher - Winner
Rubens Barrichello - Runner up

This would be my dream season.

I think Williams/BMW will be Ferrari's nearest competition IF they get some reliability from the car early in the season. McLaren/Merc. will also be there, but I think will drop to 3rd.

Even though I bought a Honda (and am very anxious to get my hands on it), I am at heart a Ferrari fan (see avatar)...I wish Honda well, but I can't see them giving Ferrari a run for it this year.

I do hope they improve to 2nd in the constructors though!!!

Although I tend to agree that Ferrari will be on top again, they will be using some brand new tech this year and new pieces are often broken pieces. Rubens will be much more on pace this year or we won't see him again in '03.
Williams will gain more reliability equaling more wins. Montoya & Ralf will split points. Good for Frank, bad for the drivers.
McLaren will probably start the season well, but unless results are gained early they will loose their peak early. Personally I have a feeling Kimi's about to get smoked by DC (and I'm not a DC fan).
Sauber is a toss up. Before the Prost liquidation, I would've predicted a downturn, but now that they have exclusive use of the customer Ferrari engines they will receive more support. So who knows?
Jordan will probably gain simply by the fact that Honda has been looking more favorably in their direction as 'The' Honda team. If their new design works, they could surprise with some podiums. Fisi is the most underrated driver in the sport & Sato could be a prodigy from all accounts.
BAR maintains level. Management & design staff shakeups plus a rumored departure by JV won't help.
Jaguar is already off to a bad start.
Toyota is too
Minardi will be the big surprise. Mark Webber plus Stoddart pumping even more cash into the team means that they may actually pull something off this year. Yoong looks to be the grids Jam Car again though.
Arrows will make slight improvements depending on the HHF or Jos lineup. Jag engines don't hurt either

To me the saddest part of the Prost breakup is one of my favorite drivers Heinz-Harald Frentzen no longer has a seat. This all ties into why I hope BAR-Honda has better luck than Jordan-Honda.

So who is going where to see what F-1 races in person this year?

I have gone to F-1 at Indy twice but not this year. I had thought of going to Canada but changed my mind due to other things I have planned, all part of the "I Love My Spa 1st Year Summer" campaign!

My predictions:

Michael will win the drivers champion, primarily because of Ferrari's reliability allowing him to finish almost every race coupled with Schumacher's amazing ability to qualify out front and the limited passing opportunities in F1. Rubens will continue to play spoiler for others, defending MS's and Ferrari's points.

Montoya (my personal fave) and Ralf with spend most of their season competing against each other instead of Ferrari, and BMW will not yet yave their reliability woe's ironed out. Never the less, Montoya will still finish second in the Drivers champoinship, and BMW will finish first in the constructors, because one of their cars will be on the podium every race, sometimes at the top of it.

McLaren and Coulthard will always be a brides-maid, never a bride. Kimi will emerge as a top driver too late in the season to really make a difference.

Toyota will make a strong showing on some races, but DNF many others, but emerge as a contender for following years.

Honda will still struggle with achieving podium finishes.

JV and EI will officially enter has-been status.

I know this sounds crazy, but it is quite possibly easier and almost an inexpensive to go to Monza this year than to try and see the USGP at Indy... And somehow Monza seems like a cooler place to see Ferrari win the checkered flag than the brickyard

Monza is quite close to the Milan airport, so I was thinking of flying in, renting a BMW motorcycle, checking out Monza, then spending a week riding the Alps and the Dolomites...

Anybody want to come?

pfb - great plan! Sounds like a blast. Seeing Ferrari win at Monza has got to be an experience!

I have to stay home and keep saving money, so next year I can buy 4 wheels for the Spa and get R-compound tires on them.

So when does "Provisional" calendar become "Official" calendar?

Provisional 2002 calendar
3/3 Grand Prix of AUSTRALIA (Melbourne) (1)
3/17 Grand Prix of MALAYSIA (Kuala Lumpur)
3/31 Grand Prix of BRAZIL (S

inexpensive to go to Monza?

Pfb, you must have gotten one hell of a deal. Monza is far & away the most expensive grand prix I've ever attended. It is worth every dollar if your a tifosi, but my price for Monza alone was almost the equivalent of both Montreal & USGP in 2000 (...and the USGP cost less for me in '01)
