I still can't figure him out. On the one hand, he shows so much promise to be a top driver and on the other hand, he looks like an ordinary racer.

I mean he shows that his lap times are on par with Renault(consistant) but for whatever reason has been unable to match their pace. He has poor starts (clutch problems?) one race, and then sometimes he's slow out of the pits(Honda performance?) yet he does fairly well by finishing a solid 3rd and 4th, respectively this season.

Well, the renaults are dominant for sure. We all can agree that Fisi isn't really that good yet he gets pole and wins the race so is Alonso even that good considering he's had the best car since last year???

Given that, perhaps Button is a top driver since he doesn't have the best car or does he? So confused.

 

IMO FA is a great racer but when JT was his team mate, JT beat him consistently. (Sorry Doug! )

Fisi seems to be a bad luck magnet - we'll will see what happens the rest of the year. I think FA may be slightly faster but I can't really decide because of Fisi's luck....

Now your main question - Button - he is good but he is the only top rated driver without a win. Some of the second tier drivers have wins but not him.
Not sure where the gap is, but I think the team has to take some of it. Their pit timing was not great last race, but it happens to everyone at some point. JB just seems to be missing something.....

 

When JV went to williams..96.. grabed [pole 1st race, and won 6 races 1st yr..teammate won WC..97.. he kicked Roters ass, and won WC
fast forward.. he hasnt won a race in 9 years.. i do not think JV lost it.. I think the cars he was in SUCKED.
JB STILL has NOT had a car capible of winning.. plain and simple

RB has 9 wins.. JB Zero... do you really think RB is up on JB or do you see that JB is a great driver getting the 100% maximum out of the car, but the 100% is not equal with Renault currently. And RB being in SAME car... why is RB sucking dog testicles, and JB is tied for 2nd in championship??

PS MS hs won many times in a Ferrari that was not the best car - but he managed to do it, particularily when he first joined Ferrari....

FA did it last year at San Marino when he held off MS who was in a much quicker car.

^ that is the difference between a good driver and a great driver - JB has yet to make that jump, I think he can, but he has not yet....

 

I agree with Matrix.. the greats FIND a way to win in sub par cars and JB is not yet GREAT.. he's good

I would really like to see, if Jenson had to start at the back of the grid, if he can "carve" his way up the field as would MS and recently seen by Kimi

dont use Imola 05.. MS had a great car 1 day... was slightly quicker than FA.. but what happened rest of the year... Imola was MS's 1 chance and HE blew it.. fact boys

My guess is that the Ferrari elexctonics are very different from the Honda electronics adn RB had been drving that Ferrari for a long time. He has also gone back to trying out left foot braking which he sucked at.


While Michael is one of the best ever, the Ferrari won the year before he got there and was a top 3 car in 1995 so let's not get carried away.
