Default Nascar haters thread!

You know when I was a kid I saw those Superbirds going around the track and after they banned those cars it was like they banned performance from then on.
For me stock car racing is like a bad episode of a combination of "The Beverly Hillbillies " and " The Andy Griffith show" Jethro comes to visit Mayberry and he gets Gomer,Goober, and Barney to go down to the Junkyard and buy some wrecks for $500 dollars and they get Gomer to hot rod them up and they go down to the local track and race em against each other. Wow how can you get excited about that? Now they play that episode every weekend . WTF? Then thanks to the France family they get the "Deliverance" boys to add the excitement of " That Ned Beatty and Gomer car shure looks pretty " and they hit it in the ass end with their car and Nascar was born.
Did anybody read what Scott Speed said ? He said stock cars were like "Driving a boat that did not steer or stop very well. Hell the car hardly knew you were even there" .
Formula 1 may not always be exciting but the cars are like F22 Raptors compared to Nascars "Lawn tractor technology" Oh wait the lawn tractor is too high tech for Nascar!

Good word of advice . Go to a race then you will see why there are people that like it . If you have not been to a race then you do not see the joy in it . Seeing what most people see on tv might seem boring to you . But being there is a different story.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of NASCAR, but I do have to say, I hold no ill-will agains the France family, in fact I nearly worship them. You see had it not been for their vision of what Watkins Glen could be again, this great track would be nothing but farm land now...

So F1 is better competition than Nascar? Using the greatest technology in the world and having cars that do what F1 cars are capable of does not mean that they make for the best races.

I'm no fan or racing in circles, be it open-wheel race cars, trucks, or so called stock cars. I just don't happen to like this type of racing, I spend plenty of time on track myself, and I know left and right corners and complex connections between them on road courses is way more challenging, and when it comes to watching racing on TV, I want it to be both entertaining, and something I can relate to.

One of the biggest problems I have with NASCAR's so called stock-cars is it is not at all, or even close to being anything to do with stock cars. Now, if you take a lok at British Touring Car, here you will see a form of racing that is "stock cars" and way the heck more entertaining from my point of view.

Oh, and look, they are not afraid to drive in the rain...

BTCC makes NASCAR's so called stock car formula look like a bad red-neck joke.

I am a Nascar fan and even I would not want to watch a street-going Impala, Fusion, Camry do laps. Obviously it has to do with marketing. If you have ever seen a Nascar with no graphics, you can't tell the makes apart.

1 point you mention "something you can relate to" is very important. Most Americans don't spend a lot of time on a race track like you. Most Americans can relate to Nascar because it's people from their home states, names that sound "white/American", & sponsors they see on a daily basis + it's about as patriotic as it gets.

Also, Doug doesn't spend any time on oval tracks before denigrating them.

I've never raced at all, just done track days. Doug and I have about the same sort of experience/background, I think. But I have talked with some outstanding local race drivers who have raced both oval and road courses, and they all say oval racing is as hard or harder than road course racing. None of the people who have tried it are putting down the NASCAR drivers. Not in my experience, anyway.

Doug likes what he likes. So do we all. But there is a difference between saying "I don't like that" and "That is stupid". The one is a fact about a personal opinion, and the other is a personal opinion about a fact.

my friend and his dad are from georgia, they went to a nascar race at homestead about 4 years ago. The guy next to them was picking out his ear wax w/ the end of his glasses. My friend looked at his dad and they both said, i've had enough of this shit. They've taught me the difference between an american, a red neck and a hick. I've been to nascar races before, and i don't know what you mean by if you don't go to a race, u don't know what the joy is. Why would anyone want to be surrounded by animals.

u should watch something productive like F1. If u've seen yesterdays German GP or teh British GP u'd learn what a real pass is and what real racing is. Don't see how nascar fans love to see 500 meaningless passes in a 5 hr race. A nascar pass is like passing a slower car in the right lane on a freeway. And looks like F1 technology makes the racing closer. Before the German GP there was a 3 way tie for the lead. Looks like nascar isn't on a level playing field, why is Kurt Bush wining everything?
