Default Post 2007 USGP at Indy

When Laguna Seca got deal for US MotoGP race the contract said for 3 years only LS could host only US race. As of 08, Indy has been approved by FIM for a possible 2nd US MotoGP race. BUT, turn 13 the bank can NOT be used, too dangerous for motorcycles.
So Indy will be revising the track, and make track go back into infield.
What does this have to do with USGP F1 you may ask???

The new layout will be used for F1 if BE and TG agree to race at Indy after 07.

This is fact.

What do you guys think???

I don't like Indy, never have. All that crap US history with Indy is BS for formula-1. I would love to see the USGP on some real natural race tracks like Road America or Watkins Glen.

Bring it back to the Glen. I got to see 3 F1 races there in the mid-late 70s.

I was curious as to what everyone thought about no more bank and long straight, but a 2nd infield section at Indy, because they are building it for MotoGP and once its done it WILL be the F1 track also if TG and BE extend agreement beyond 07.

I still think Las Vegas may be on the cards... a combo circuit/road course, like what HT is planning abu dhabi

a friend in Vegas says the proposed lot is still available, and it passed LV politics.. so all they need is the funds and BE approval.

I read that news story and put it out of my head because it made me sad...

One of the challenges Indy has is they are rather confined by the fact that they are inside a stadium. Removing IRL's Turn 1 (F1 #13) would in my mind suck because it just seems to me this would somehow make the track shorter in distance. I love the fact that the USA F1 has a claim to fame in the fact that they have the longest section of track where the driver's are at 100% throttle. They go onto the gas as soon as they enter the track between IRL #2 and #1 and then run flat out as they approach #4. To me the fact that F1 cars get to experience a bit of a banked curve I think is a big part of the Indy appeal, taking it away for just some motorcycles seems a shame.

I totally disagree about that so-called crap US history with Indy. Things were different back then, F1 was much more open, less constrained, just because it was different does not make it bad. The fact that drivers and cars could compete in more of a variety of races was just the way it was, something I think is kind of cool. I love the history of racing!!! In fact just this weekend I had the treat of listening to Denise McCluggage speak about her rich racing experience, what a lady, what a magical time in history she was able to compete during. (http://www.roadandtravel.com/celebri...e_autohall.htm)

Oh, and Naby, all the wishing in the world will never make Watkins Glen or Road America ever get onto the FIA calendar. The tracks are just not close enough to a decent sized city, and without any real infrastructure you can't hold an F1 race.

I don't know what's the big deal about the slight banking and motorcycles. Over the weekend, I saw Bikes racing on the banked Daytona track. Also, I saw the opener of MotoGP where lean angles exceeded 60 degrees at many turns. These MotoGP guys are unbelievably talented and can adapt to any kind of track. My opinion.
