Default Schumacher Wouldn't Win

According to an interview in the Sun, Formula 1 Minardi driver Mark Webber believes that if Michael Schumacher were driving a Minardi rather than a Ferrari that he wouldn't be winning races, although he would get the most out of the car.

This is the type of shrewd, incisive reasoning that ensures that drivers in the pinnacle of motorsport are viewed with esteem, reverence, and, yes, even awe by drivers in lesser series.

Yup, that is an extremely acute observation from our back of the pack group known as Minardi.

So who do you think will do well in Canada this weekend?

Well if Minardi is holding back, now might be a good time to stop because we are about half way through the season.

I will admit Minardi is doing okay with what little money they have to work with but they are not a front runner. And I see nothing wrong with supporting a team other than one of the top 3 or 4 because I support Jordan and they are clearly not a front runner.

Constructor's Championship (points):
72 Ferrari
54 Williams
24 McLaren
11 Renault
8 Sauber
4 Jordan
3 Jaguar
2 Arrows
2 Minardi
2 Toyota

It might be of interest to see the rest of the discussion about Schumey in a Minardi as yes, it is a total no-brainer statement. I am sure he is worth several tenths in any seat but one of the major factors in the success of the Scuderai and Michael is that the car, team and tactics are developed by and around one person...and that is Michael Schumacher. I am pretty sure he would not be instantly quickest in a Williams or a McLaren either for this reason.

If it is very warm on the Ile de Notre Dame next weekend with those long straights and Michelins I think Williams will be in the hunt once again. I hope Montoya is the one taking the fight to Ferrari.

Yes, Michael would be able to get a lot out of another team's car because he is an extremely talented driver. Like him and the team or not, it does not matter, he has some extraordinary skill sets.

The BMW engine in the Williams makes fantastic power and the brakes are outstanding. The BMW Williams team is going to be tough competition all year, that is a fact. Williams has a couple of good drivers and Frank likes to win!

Although I am a Schumacher fan and a team Ferrari fan, I am also a team BMW fan and a team Jordan fan. I like a season where there are a lot of unknowns and this season is starting to get rather interesting. I'm impressed with the way Renault is working their way back up. For years they were the #1 team and then they became a nothing team, and now they seem to be experiencing a nice turn around.

If we recall back when MS first joined Ferrari...the car was no where near what it is today. MS assisted in developing the car to what it is today along with the other members of the Ferrari team. Put MS in a Minardi, give him a few years...results would be interesting imo.

Yes I think that is true but not at this stage of his career. It took Michael 3 years to make a winner out of Benetton and 4 (if you count '99 when he got hurt) to bring the crown to Maranello. Even if Paul Stoddart could find the money (and a lot of it would find him if Schumacher magically signed with Minardi) I don't feature a 34 year old fogey (!) being able or willing to spend the 3-5 years it would take to make a winner out of the back of the grid team.

This is of course highly silly in general but truth is in the current state of the art the driver is not the instant fix in any team....look at BAR.
