well since this is delusional speculation anyways.
put kimi in one seat and MS in the other at mercedes.
and you've got lewis and jenson in the other mercedes team.
so you could have two teams, each with two world champions, competing with the same engines....

^^^ the ego will be gone soon
I bet that it'll be close but Button will have an edge over a season. I feel that LH will break under Button's Preassure

I hope Button does not face any negative consequences of going to McLaren, and even if he does I'm hoping he will be able to match Lewis in a car that is specifically designed for Lewis' capabilities.

One thing is this: Button is on a high right now and feeling very confident and pumped. Lewis had some great drives this year but he didn't win. There is going to be some serious rivalry AND I predict there will be some mistakes (due to pushing too hard) before they settle down and driving like they can and should.
As was mentioned elsewhere, Button likes understeer and Hamilton likes oversteer. That's going to make for a lot of issues with car design and setup and it'll limit how much they can learn by running two cars.

^^ I'll add to that. Lewis drives hard even when there is no need to and that sometimes works to his detriment. Button is more consistent in that he will bring the car home no matter what and finish the race.
For all we know it may come down to consistency and the person with fewer mistakes and more points finishes could well end up being the WDC over someone that has more wins.
But knowing McLaren, they will engineer the car for Lewis, and Button has his job cut out to build a rapport with the team there and influence them towards setting up a car that works for his fluid smooth driving style.
Personally I prefer watching the smoother elegant driver over someone that manhandles his car to a win. Also a reason why I like Seb Vettel. I hope his time comes soon.

Makes me wonder whether McLaren will put up with Lewis's tantrums like they have in the past.
I'm just catching this after reading it for the first time. Lewis Hamilton throws tantrums?
Surely you don't mean tantrums like:
-Hungary '09 when Button car is handling like crap and he's complaining over the radio. When he found out he was off the pace after Q3, he throws an "F" bomb within earshot of cameras/micrrophones.
-Brazil '09 when Button can't pass Kobayashi's Toyota and he's complaining over the radio.

Jenson the triathlete vs Lewis and his ego.
