Here's a script Honda could'a / should'a done with the S2000 when they dreamed up the S2000CR.
From AE:
"Ford rewrites the grassroots racing playbook with its new turn-key Mustang racing series.
Las Vegas. Road racers got some unexpected good news at the SEMA show yesterday as Ford introduced a (relatively) affordable way for racers to go racing with V-8-powered Mustangs in a brand new one-make series. The new eight-race series will be called the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup and features the Ford Mustang FR500S, a purpose-built Mustang co-developed by Ford Racing Technology and Miller Motorsports Park.
The interesting thing about the FR500S is that it's built on a special assembly line without the seats, carpet, insulation and other interior items not needed for track use, making it the first-ever production line-built Ford race car. The Mustangs are then fitted with roll cages at Watson Engineering in Taylor, MI, before being sent out to Miller Motorsports Park for final assembly. An up-close inspection of the FR500S reveals that Ford Racing has made extensive and very creative use of the Ford parts catalog to deliver a race-worthy package.
The FR500S has an all-aluminum 4.6-liter fuel-injected V-8 that delivers 325HP. The engines are then sealed to ensure equality for all of the competitors. A 6-speed Ford Racing gearbox is used and the cars have a Ford racing/Torsen differential with a 3.73 final drive ratio. A thoroughly-developed chassis package is part of the FR500S with special suspension bits and 4-piston 14" Brembo brakes in the front, racing pads all around and a racing calibrated ABS. BF Goodrich 245/40-18 g-Force R1 DOT will be the required spec tires for the series. All cars are delivered painted white, although base color options are available for an additional charge.
It's not every day that a spec road racing series comes along offering V-8 performance at an affordable price. And with the FR500S Mustangs arriving complete and ready to race for $75,000, I'd say that a lot of road racers will be clamoring to get their hands on one. And on top of all of that, there's actual prize money available too. $300,000 will be at stake with points awarded through 25th place. A win is worth 30 points with an additional point awarded for a pole position.
I commend Ford Racing for creating a fantastic way for aspiring racers to get their hands on affordable V-8 power with the FR500S Mustang and for offering a venue to run them with the new Miller Cup. I'd say it's the best deal to come along in a long, long time.

This sounds like a bigger version of the Mazda Miata spec series. Ford had great success with that so now they're moving up to their more powerful chassis.
