Honda Undecided on 2007 Engine
Wednesday, September 06, 2006 - 07:20 AM
Honda is yet to decide whether to risk using its 2007-spec V8 engine at Monza.
The Japanese marque is hoping to rush the revised 2.4 litre power plant into service in order to get it ready for the FIA's engine 'freeze', and tested it at the Italian venue last week.
However, after the Monza test, Honda chiefs were reportedly concerned about the reliability of the unit, which - if being used at the time of the homologation deadline next month - could not be significantly updated for several years.
It is understood that Rubens Barrichello suffered a failure with the 2007 engine last week, while rumours of a second problem involving Jenson Button's power plant are also doing the rounds.
Honda is reportedly willing to wait until the last moments before Friday practice for the Italian GP before deciding whether to use the engine, which was planned for introduction for 2007 prior to the finalisation of the new rules.
Jenson Button said at Monza on Thursday of last week: ''Today's problems have been a little disappointing so we will have to wait and see what the analysis of these issues tells us.''

I'm still not happy about a technology freeze, however, if someone wanted to freeze bernie's brain I would be all for that...
