Ruut's LS powered widebody build
I have a 04 that I bought as a rolling chassis. I decided to build it into a LS1 powered Widebody street legal race car.

The widebody will be delivered tomorrow. I just made the delivery appointment with the shipping company. |

So, Everyone has evaluated the tires and come to the conclusion that I am some sort of meat fanatic, while this is true I have chosen the tire sizes for a reason. I will lay out some specs for the build to explain.
Goal weight for the car is 2380 lbs(with cage). Estimated specs for the current engine. 425-450 hp and 430-450 tq. It will more than likely have a SC on it in the next year or so and be at 650ish HP. The car is being built for track days and Autox. The track and Autox set up is 18x10.5 et 37 with 315/30/18 Hoosioer A6s Square. The only down side to the project is the width but I feel like it ls a good set up based on other S2ks I have set up with stock power plants. I know a lot of people feel a LS swap S is blasphemy but this car was in a light wreck and I felt that is was a proper candidate for such a project. It really is just to build a S that fits in the WTF is that category. I had a MY00 prior to this project and I loved the car but wanted something a bit on the radical side just to see how far I could take it and still have usable power. This the car I had before this project. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8226/...18e4c619_c.jpg |
Body kit was just delivered. Took a minute away from working and played with it a bit. The test fitting will continue later.

Yeah a stock color on an extremely modded car makes sense! :banghead: Stick to the four wheelers J! |
OK. :baby:
:D  |
Drive shaftshop is building my axles and driveshaft this week. They are doing prototype axles for us to test. They are supposed to be good for 600HP. Wiring and plumbing working going on tomorrow. Should be ready to fire this thing up in the next week or so.
|
Made a good bit of progress today! Engine is back out and engine bay mods are continuing. Should be ready for the engine to go back in in a couple of days.
|
Hot damn!

I think you should go with a pink color because who is going to call you a PU$$y when your driving that beast. :)Let me know if next sunday works for you to get some more work done and I will come out.

I like that idea. Most people have enough sense not to say that to me anyway. Next Sunday should work fine. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for the help yesterday! |
Going to be an absolute animal. Best thread I've seen in a while. keep up the awesome work!

Thanks! I'm really excited to get it up and running. Testing should be lots of fun! As soon as it I have it running I will get some video to post up. |

So sick. Can't wait to see it painted.

Sick build. I've always wondered what an S2k would feel like with low end torque... :stick: What'd the LS1 come out of?

Nice. As soon as I bought my S2k everyone asked me if I was going to put the motor from my T/A in it haha. You're probably close to 400 rwhp (not sure which heads you've got). I'm assuming you went with the T56 trans?

Yeah, it has the T56 from the WS6. I bought a 2010 Camaro Diff with richmond 3:73 gears and poly bushings. looking for 385-425HP and a completed weight of 2300lbs. |

Do you have headers or any other upgrades? |

Oh and I guess it's worth mentioning, but if it hasn't already been done, make sure you tune out the "skip shift" feature for the T56. That shit is annoying. It'll lock you out of every gear but 4th when shifting out of 1st at a certain rpm range. |

i am debating on whether to buy the import muscle kit or use tom's poly mounts to the stock subframe (which i kind of like better)
do you think there is enough room with those solid mounts to run flipped truck headers and route the exhaust from a turbo Over the mounts and back to the exhaust? (both sides, or single) the other idea i had was just flipped headers , twin turbo and do the exhaust out of the hood. my car won't be as radical as yours body-wise but i hope it is just as cool :p |

I will look at mine and see what options I see. I have considered Turbo but due to the tight space and the fact I like the torque you get from a whipple charger, I'm inclined to go that route. |
I've never seen a whipple on an LS1 (wont fit under the hood of an f-body) but I talked to a guy with a Magnuson supercharger on his WS6 and he was making 420rwtq at like 2500 rpm. It's a good thing you've got 335s on that car.

Thanks! I have been looking at yours and it's sweet, Good job! |
I Was browsing zilvia the other day and there was a guy on there selling his FD which had a supercharged 383 SBC (might have been a 408, idr). i think it was around 700 to 800hp w/ 800 tq. said it spun until about 120 Lol. went thru 2 t-56's before finally switching to a th400. apparently it is very scary to drive
i think a turbo would be a better option because the massive torque amounts isn't instant. a friend of mine had a 900~ hp LSx FD and although it was silly f*ckin fast, it was much more streetable |

I just want to get to the point where I have as much as I can use. |
Worked on wiring and rebuilding the core support today. The lower support will be welded in but the upper won't. I want it modular so it's easier to remove the engine.

So beast...how are you going to clear the headlight mounting brackets with such a wide front tire?

Here are some pics of some new stuff including the headers that I'm modding. These are temporary headers for now. I want to make some custom 180 headers. https://sphotos-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/h...29110247_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...81178861_n.jpg https://sphotos-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/h...67950606_n.jpg https://sphotos-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/h...66917060_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...24127160_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...24781336_n.jpg The car is going to be a continual project. One idea I'm kicking around is making it a Coupe. I think it would be cool to be the only S2000 that's a coupe, let alone a V8 coupe. Xyster and I are working on a design but haven't landed on one yet. I like this rendering. http://up.autotitre.com/d9fe15256b.jpg |
