So it grinds when I go from 3rd to 5th at about 4k rpms, and I'm not quite sure what I should do. I usually skip a gear after getting up to speed ala overdrive. I am juuust about to hit 7k on the car. I browsed quickly through some of the TSB stuff, but didn't see anything with regards to this, especially not on 2002's.

Yes... this would typically be known as "working for technology" not "technology working for you," something akin to the Bill Gates business school. Are there others out there with better suggestions on how to resolve this?
Row through the gates. You know, 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th. Just don't engage the clutch on 4th. Nevertheless, if you do like to go from 3rd to 5th,you should really double clutch (if I'm not mistaken). Skipping gears=f**ked up syncros. Latez!
I skip gears in my car all the time. If I shift too quickly I'm taking a chance on getting a grind because the gears are going too fast relative to each other. I probably crunched it into 6th three or four times before I figured out how to avoid it.
When you're skipping gears you're definitely not in a hurry, so just take two or three seconds between leaving one gear and getting into the next. Going from redline in first gear to sixth gear generally requires five or more seconds wait. The faster the engine is going when you leave the lower gear, the longer the wait for things to slow down in your transmission.
I realize that the Honda transmission in the S2000 is not like the Muncie 4-speed in my first car, so I give the synchronizers a little while to do their job.
You could probably shift quicker if you go from 3rd to 4th, then to 5th without letting the clutch out in 4th.
This is strange cuz I never really have the problem going from 2nd to 4th... at any rpm... and if I let it drop below 4k, it doesn't grind during the 3-5 shift either...
maybe there is no fix... but the crunch is still nasty
