Default GT4 disc error

I'm sure a lot of you on the boards play GT4.

I actually just picked up a copy yesterday, but it doesnt seem to load well for me. When I get to the loading screen before I start a race, the ticker turns from white to red. It works like 1 out of 10 times, but this clearly isn't acceptable.

I read several theories.... some that its overheating, lens issues, dual layer reading issues...

Have any of you experienced this, and if so, how did you go about fixing it?

I'm using an old PS2 that I got when it first came out... maybe I need to clean the lens or get the dust out of it (overheating)?

Thanks for the help!

anyhow, one of my friends has had this happen to him on his old-ish PS2, but after replacing the gt4 disc with a new one, it worked. are there any scratches or anything on the disc?

Hahah
We have some GT4 get togethers up here too. The games a blast. I love taking the Accords and beating up on the S2000s!

I have an old PS2 and havent had this problem yet. It may be a dirty lens?

PS2s do tend to build up dust, so first thing I'd try is getting a can of compressed air and spraying it through the vents for a bit.

In most cases of dust buildup, though, the game doesn't load at all (i.e., you wouldn't even get anywhere near starting a race). Then again, I don't play GT4, so I'm not sure exactly how far into the loading process that is. I've got one of the early batch PS2s also and it's had issues with dust a few times.

Thanks for the input guys.

I did get it used however, from ebay, so I'll email back the seller and see what they'll do. I'll also just try seeing if i can clean my lens/ps2.

Most likely its your laser reading the disc

OR

since its off of fleabay, it can be a bad or damaged disc.
