Default oil problem

Every month, I check my oil and it's always low. It's like every month I have to put in like 1/4 quart of oil to get it back up. So my question is, does VTEC burn oil? I've heard somewhere that it does but not from a reliable source. I've been driving pretty hard lately and every month I've notice the oil level goes a bit lower. My engine is well maintained and is running smoothly so I was thinking about what I heard about VTEC. Anyone else have this problem or know what might be wrong with my engine? Do you think there's an oil leak somewhere or maybe gasket problems?

1. How many miles on the engine?
2. How many miles to burn 1/4 Qt?

High revving can burn oil.

Engine is coming on its next oil change but it's at 40k. On occasion I would go up to about 7k max. Never hit redline yet.

How many miles? Umm, I'm not exactly sure but the car is 2001 and barely has 40k miles on it. So i'm not sure how many miles in a month.

You can't judge the condition of the engine by how much oil it burns in a month. It's the miles that are important. If you are doing 3000 miles a month, you have nothing to worry about(especially if you've been revving alot). You could always do a compession test to make sure the rings are good. And make sure to keep checking the oil.

Oh yea, lol. I completely forgot about trying that. I'll probably do compress test on the weekend then. But yea, you're probably right, I'm probably just paranoid but I just wanted to make sure. It's been bothering me a lot lately. Thanks for the help Jason. Very much appreciate it.

I have the same problem... I know theres no leaks cause it sits in the garage the whole week(in the same spot) and it only has 26K on the speedo. The car runs smooth, but i do push to red a lot when i am driving it...

I use Mobil 1 syenthetic and i was told that it does get burned up if i rev real high a lot so ive just accepted it....

20mpg street is avg right??

here's my .02, i autox my S a lot this year and yes i drive it pretty hard

whenever you wind down from revving or downshifts quick without rev matching, it creates a lot of vaccum that a lot of oil shoots out of the purge valve and returns it to the intake manifold and burning it there. and it does it a lot on high revving motors like the s2k's. i installed catchcans in my car and after 3 or 4 runs on autox, i get 2-4 spoonful of oil in the catch can. also from drivng hard for one day, i catch a lot of oil. its just normal if you drive the car hard. i check my oil everyday and i actually add a quart total within 5k miles, thats in between oil change.

also if you just changed oil and top it off, it shoots out even more oil at wind down or downshifts.

p.s. i haven't revved my car to 9k yet too..... on 6th gear that is , but it's normal for me to hit redline in all the gears on daily driving (been 8500rpm on 6th gear at 150~ mph though, and thats just once )
