Out-of-state S.. need help..
I posted this in the main S forum, but didn't get any responses..
Anyone purchase their S2000 from another state? I've found my baby, and I've briefly spoken to the dealer in another state that's receiving it. However, when I called a dealer here in the SF Bay Area about receiving it, they were quick to try to make me buy one from them.
How does smogging, licensing/registration, and taxes work out? I'm very anxious to jump on this deal, but I'm concerned about the paperwork.
Thanks in advance

Buying out of state new tips:
Must Smog your car in order to get CA registration
Must Visit DMV and pay FULL SALES Tax in order to even qualify to register your car in CA
All paper work must be done in the origin of the state you bought your car. Paper work can all be done by fax.
All paper must be transfered over when that car arrives in CA.
Thats It
have fun!
What exactly is the "paperwork" portion? I always thought paperwork was just registration of the car with the DMV. Sorry, I want to jump on this deal, but I'm a little concerned with the paper work not falling through etc. Don't want to be stuck with a car in the garage that I can't drive.
Hey Rich, i was considering doing out of state purchase too, but it doesn't seem worth it and in the end, you'll realize that you didn't even save that much money. You CAN find it at MSRP at several dealerships. Honda of Oakland for example, you said didn't sell at MSRP (over the phone) I had one which I could have purchased in March from them at MSRP. You can get it pretty much anywhere now, just go down and say, gimmie MSRP or walk. Theres so many Honda dealers around here, it shouldn't be a problem.

My car originally came from Kendall's in Eugene Oregon. I got it through a car broker who arranged for a few early S2000's in 1999. I had the original paperwork that the dealer gets, not something from Oregon. The car was driven to California with some temporary paperwork giving permission to transport it between specific points.
I took the car and the paperwork to the DMV and they inspected the car to make sure the VIN was correct and that it had an emission sticker indicating that the car met California standards (all S2000's do). I didn't know about the emissions test, so I had to take it to a smog place and get a certificate.
I spent less than an hour at the DMV and walked out with all paperwork complete and a set of plates to put on the car.
I wouldn't hesitate to bring another S2000 in from out of state if I were unable to make a reasonable deal locally (assuming I ever had a reason to get another one).

As to asking questions on the main S forum, if it has to do with California or anything about the Bay Area, you're much better off posting questions here.

I remember calling them for a 2002 pre-order in July of last year, the guy told me $42,000 + Tax.
