Default Question about Cali

Hi Guys,

Firstly Happy Holidays!!

My name is James, I'm 22 and I currently live in Long Island New York.

My question to you guys is; What is it like living in California with the S2000?
Especially for those of you who have Mods?
I have 0 first hand experience, however I have heard many things about the Cali Emissions laws and have possibly been thinking of moving to California.

My main reasons are:

Reasons:
Warmer climate (can't stand snow, makes life very miserable!)
Closer to tracks & more of them (as I am VERY passionate about racing and as you can see am willing to move to accomplish this)

I recently moved down to Fort Myers Florida and stayed there for a year as a "trial" and loved the style and newness of houses, however of course the hurricanes were a nuisance.

Obviously I am very young and I am in the stage of my life where I want to figure out where I want to live to continue my life. I fully believe in testing the waters and not just up and moving.

So any insight on daily living, economy, jobs, life with the S, and most importantly track life would be great!

Thanks in advance

James

For the most part, as long as you don't speed/break the law or make a ruckus the local law enforcers "usually" doesn't pull you over solely for your mods and such. The only people you really have to worry about are santa clara sheriffs as they have the least amount of patience for modded cars in my opinion. They were the only ones that had a problem with my car. Just my 2 cents.

true. 22 you say? hehe you could see we are most likely down to hang out most of times. friday meets late notice drives and yes! tons and tons of car shows and drives during the summer.

for four months of driving an s2000, idk about mods. lol. IMO but you dont want the hassle of being BAR'd for your testpipe.

come down and see whats good!

for an s2k, it's one hell of a good state to drive your s in.
the only worries you have here are either getting pulled over by the pigs, or losing against a prius.

So basically I can keep my cat and not have to worry about the rest. I'm not one to speed in public, I'd much rather go to a racetrack (hence y cali is one of the places I am looking to move to)

yea pretty much.
but there are asshole cops here who think they have all rights to pull you over, just because your car is 'suped up' and that's how you can get screwed over depending on the situation =/

If you are really into track days, you really can't beat California. With around 6 or 7 good tracks to choice from, you can track every weekend if you want. Norcal tracks tend to favor elevation change while Socal tracks tend to be a little flatter, but dustier.

As far as the cops go, if you mind your manners and don't give them a reason to pull you over, you usually won't run into issues, as there are tons of modded cars around for them to choose from. I've only been harrassed by "the man", in the almost 6 years I've owned my S, but I gave him a good reason to check me out.

I'm definitely serious about tracking, however I only need 1 home track and then I can travel to others.

My next question is how bad is living expenses?

Currently my rinkydink house in NY is $400k

I was looking next to road Atlanta Georgia and they were in the $350k range for something niyce and that's about where I want to be.
I took a look in Monterey, next to laguna seca and things were 300K for a 2bd which is definitely a NO GO!!!

What part of California are you looking to live in?

I'm sure you realize that California is a very long state with many different climates and cultures. It does have several tracks but not too many are in close proximity.

Be prepared to have sticker shock if you plan on buying a house (I think now is the best time.) The Job market along with the rest of the US is in a slump.

With all the above mentioned Its a great place, I can't imagine living anywhere else Even if we have earthquakes!!

Anyone feel the ones earlier today,.. wow!

Don

Edit: 4.1 in Trespino's about 10 miles from my house http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Q...nc51213534.htm

I'm not really looking to live in any particular part.

I basically want to move to a local track town that has a warmer climate with minimal environmental issues (earthquakes, hurricanes, rock slides, snow etc.)

I have been looking into Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca so far today, but obviously this is the beginning of a long search to get things perfect.
