Soft Top Patch?

IMHO patching is the way to go. I've heard of some guys trying to sew up a tear in the top. But I think a proper patch is always going to be far superior. Usually you get a hole or tear in an area that is already weak, right? Sewing amounts to poking a lot of little holes through the already weakened area, and expecting that to hold the whole thing together ... not!
A patch properly cemented to the inside of the top reinforces the whole area around the tear. Add a little dab of silicone on the outside as Beho88 suggests, let it partially harden, then press some cloth of similar texture against it to give it some texture like the rest of the top. The result is virtually invisible, especially as in S2-ken's case where it is a very small hole.
I had two small holes (in the usual places) in my top when I got the car. I could probably have developed the skill to do a good job of patching it myself with some practice--but I just took it to a reputable shop and had them do it. Paid about 150 bucks, but it was done quickly, looks great, and I'm confident that it will last several years if I don't abuse the top.

They're gonna want to see it first if you want an estimate. Some people think they are being evasive, but I think that's just the way it is -- every job is a little bit different when it comes to fixing the top. There are lots of reviews on Yelp. I only went to Premier that one time, but I came away feeling that they did right by me and knew their stuff. Today my top looks just like it did the day I drove away from Premier.
Pics? ... maybe this weekend, if I get a chance. It's night now, way too dark. Besides, your repair would look different from mine because a tear 1.5-2 inches long is already much bigger than mine was. Premier might suggest a different solution for you, who knows? I'd suggest just taking the car in to them, and ask a bunch of questions about how they would fix it.
BTW, be sure to smooth off those rough edges on the steel frame that cause those typical wear spots. That will go a long way toward extending the life of the top.
Good luck!
How do you go about smoothing off the edges of the bar that the spots typically are worn from? I ran my finger behind it to see if something sharp was pointing out but it seems smooth enough to not poke a hole but I can see why the cloth would tear over time.
Hey dudes!
If any of you have seen me, my top looks beat! Attempted to repair some tears right before I moved here and it looks like sh*t.
Is it true that 2 of you in here have an OEM top for sale?
Thanks

I've done quite a few smoothing of the burrs so definitely possible but you need to be careful. Patches and sewing can also be done so if you need to see how it's done let me know.
P.S. Yes I have quite a few hardtops if you need one. Just sold one yesterday to a guy in NY
here's how it looks when done right:
