UNAGI (EEL) Beware!

I just received this important piece of info both from my freight
forwarder and from two colleagues in HK who read the Chinese paper
religiously. The last two days, China has issued an immediate advisory
requesting the recall of all farmed, fresh, frozen and canned Chinese
eel (Unagi). Asian chain supermarkets like Ranch 99, and other food
distributors have already begun pulling the infected eels, supposedly
pumped with estrogen (I guess to fattened them) which may link to
cancer, off its shelves. The two biggest markets affected are Japan and
US where 70% of their eels come from China. In Hongkong, the Chief of
Health has already advised an immediate halt in the selling of eels from
China. I suggest holding off eel for the meantime and finding more info
in the paper.

I recall awhile back on the news, there were food items from China which were found not to be as described. People thought they were eating what was on the label but in fact was something else. Anyways, my girlfriend refuses to eat any food items from China.
