Default Weight Reduction?

Just a little curious how many people here have done some weight reduction. 200-300 lbs maybe? Shoot, maybe even 400.

I've found similar threads about weight reduction in the archives, but I'm just curious if anyone here in the bay has done some serious diets on their S. I'm thinking of going this route eventually.

I'm gonna be honest, to shave off 200+ lbs on this car you're getting into costly territory and it begs the question...

Are you a perfect driver where you've extracted every millisecond possible of a laptime? If the answer is 'no'; then I can think of much cheaper and overarching greater ways to get faster... by improving skill.

That said; besides the obvious of gutting all the interior, the trunk, and the passenger seat; real carbon everything; you're still probably not looking at that much weight.

Titanium exhaust is an easy way to shave off like 30lbs though.

I'm trying to find a thread for you, of a guy who did some massive destroying of his S for weight; he even took out what seperates the cabin from the trunk. If I can find it I'll definitely give you the guys name so you can talk to him.

I forget how much the car weighs stock I believe it is 2885 but I have done quite a bit of weight savings and took out a lot more than I thought I did. The list goes. Carbon Fiber Hood, Carbon fiber Trunk, carbon fiber mirrors, carbon fiber hardtop with gutted soft top. gutted carpets in cabin and trunk, no spare tire. changed out the heavy stock exhaust for a lighter Invidia, and changed out the stock air box for a lighter cold air intake, invidia test pipe no cat. Also my wheels are 4 pounds lighter a piece than the stock 22 lbs. with all that my car now weighs 2625 without me in it. that is a total of -260 lbs. I was really shocked when I got my car on the scale and found out how much it weighs.

there's a racing thread with all the details you want for weight reduction.

but relatively easy ways to remove weight include:
- oem cat to test pipe
- oem exhaust to titanium single
- no spare tire
- no soft top and race hardware for the hardtop
- oem seats for race seats

I think weight reduction is one of the more fun mods one can do to a car. I've always been into it regardless of the car. Did it to my two Tercels, Del Sol and a little on the S2k.

Not for the purpose of racing or increasing MPG, but for fun.

Most of the stuff has already been said, depending on what kind of audio you have you can take that into account.

-Removing A/C (If you don't mind the heat)
-I'e always wondered about removing the well in the trunk area and just welding a flat piece straight across. I wonder how much that would save.
-A lot of the sound deadening and heat shroud can be remove from in car and under.
-Buying aftermarket coilovers instead of rocking stock? (I wonder if that makes any difference)
-Aftermarket calipers, over stock

I dunno, I am thinking of more because it's fun.

Some wires in your car you don't need. I like to remove them.

My weight saving plan was to put myself on a diet. Easy 40 lbs AND it was cheap.

pretty much everything mentioned above, is done to my car. only thing is that it has heavy ass 3 pc. wheels.

CF hardtop
CF fenders
CF hood(doesn't save much weight)
100% gutted trunk
gutted soft top
gutted A/C

headerback waiting to go on.
header (even though its DC) is considerably lighter too.

then no P/S just because my EPS unit failed to add to the annoyingness of driving this car. Feels good though with the 2.2 setup and gears.

Whiteflash, I've read Krazik's thread if that's who you're referring to?

HOw does all that work affect the awesome 50/50 weight distribution?
