Thumbs down NORCAL guy help: how to find Hollywood sign area?

I've always wanted to take my girl up to that area of the mountains where you can see the Hollywood sign and view the LA nightlights.....

Been to LA many times but could never figure out if it's near 101 or how they get up there for those mountain drives, etc.

I'm not looking for some crazy roads that will get me killed but any good scenic places to take the girl for some sight seeing?

Let me know please

thanks,
rick

You can not get up to the sign, gated off area. However, for the best places to view the sign, see attached web address

I suggest going to the Griffith Observatory. Best view of Downtown and the Hollywood sign all at one location. Usually you need to make reservations, but if you wait until 48 hours before you plan to go you can reserve a spot online on the free shuttle that picks people with reservation at the Greek theater near the base of Griffith Park. Place is awesome, just went there after the big reopening.

you can get right under it. i forgot how i got here though. i drove up beachwood, then turned on 2 small streets and voila, it was there.

the best place would be for you to google directions to lake hollywood, that is actually a better spot to see it from. there is a hill west of the H that is just a grass field. those hills can be a maze though so be careful, oh, and the streets are really shitty up there.

edit: here is the view from lake hollywood

you can go around to barham and take lake hollywood dr. eastbound, should take you there.

You can't actually get to the sign itself. It's gated off with a huge warning sign saying something about it being polluted and toxic around that area.

Anyways, be safe.
