Lightly updated styling. Most noticably new front bumper, new rear bumper, revised spoiler, new rear lights, new spoiler design, new wheels, glass rear window. Oh, and a glove box.

Biggest dissapointment is they only kicked the output by 8 hp on both the 2.7 and S models... Supposedly no price increase, but they where already somewhat overpriced IMHO.

It just amazes me that everyone else is just kicking ass with their power outputs these days, and Porsche is content to sit back and market a lightly refreshed 7 year old design with way less power than their great chassis dynamics cries out for. Porsche's philosophy of "if you want more power, buy a 911" is tiresome, especially considering how unsightly the 911 cab is if your a roadster fan.

pfb,

I hear you! A man after my own heart! I've never been a fan of the 911, and I think that's why I never truly warmed to Porsches. When Porsche came out with the Boxster, I really thought they'd hit a home run. In my opinion, the Boxster continues to be the best looking sports car under $100K US.

Anyway, what you're saying is important, and Porsche should listen. The Boxster should not be treated as the 911's baby brother. Bring on the power. Can you say VTEC-V6?

I agree with you. even though I have a 911 (01') with 300 hp (though slightly more now that I modded it), I think Porsche should take a look around and see the Corvettes, Mustangs, M3's, SLK's with substantial hp increases. They upped the 911 this year to about 320 hp, but should go up to 350-385 (GT3 engine) and they should give the Boxster S 300 hp, and the Boxster 250 hp to compete. I like the Boxsters shape, but no matter what Porsche purists say about "enough hp," balanced chassis"..yada..yada I still think they should be at least equal or better to their competitors, never worse.

god do i luv that car!! specially with the 10 spoke rims.

but, 8 hp bump is a joke! I was hoping for 275 HP, or the 3.4L engine from the previous 911.

common- even the Acura 3.2CL type S had more HP than a freaking porsche boxster S.

and the cl is luxo sports coupe. WTF?(btw, i know that the CL weighs more. yada yada yada)

If they make the regular Boxster any faster than it is, I feel for anything under 40K. I would love to see the reg. Boxster come up to S2000 levels. that will close the gap in the roadster price/performace ratio and really make things interesting on the road. this would allow the Boxster S to really become the car that it should be. While it is great as it is, I think that for 55K you need a car that is sub 5 seconds to 60.

As much as I love both the S2k and the Boxster S, I think that is assinine for them to be 15K apart in price and yet side by side on paper and on the track. Porsche only need to worry about the NSX from the Honda marque.

I honestly think that the S is priced too low. there should be a "price of admission" to have that kinky performance. It is an (gulp) elite vehicle and should be priced as such. 42K would be perfect. you guys would get the extreme sexclusivity that you want too. I don't see how honda can make money off of the car after sinking so much R&D into it. But that is another story for another day.

I guess you are wondering as to why I am revealing this now....

Please don't flame me, as this is only my opinion.

I'm delighted that my S2000 "only" costed me 35K out the door, thank you very much.

It's a little telling how similar folks' feelings are here about the Boxster. As enthusiasts, I think we all appreciate a great car when we see it. I also think that here we are driving Honda's flagship, and I don't feel any the lesser just because of the NSXs out there. But Boxster owners (who pay significantly MORE for their car than we do) feel like the poor cousins in Porsche-land. Well, I guess that's just too bad!

Kamehamaha's comments about the S2000's price go down a little hard but I think they're mostly right (although you could say the Boxster is too high rather than saying the S2000 is too low).

Truthfully, I don't really know if we can put ourselves into the corporate "mind" of Honda. They waited such a looooong time to put a roadster on the market, but it was really worth the wait wasn't it? You'd think that if they wanted to grab market share, they wouldn't restrict the production to the levels they do. Or, if they want to maintain exclusivity, I tend to agree that they could charge more money and still sell these babies in the limited numbers they do now.

Whatever their reasoning, I continue to be astonished by their accomplishment every time I rev the engine or blast through a turn. Simply an amazing car for < $100K US, period.
