Interesting - the 2005 R6 is still being sold as the 06 YZF-R6S, while this new bike gets the regular YZF-R6 name. Does Yamaha think that the new bike is too extreme or expensive, so they need to fork their product line again? (Thinking back to when the YZF600R was their only 600cc sportbike...)
The R6S is not the same as the 05 R6, looks the same but is not the same bike, does not have the inverted forks anymore and also does not have the larger floating brakes like the 05, they went back to the previous pussy brakes for it.

People would still be better off buying the 05 R6 over the R6s

They're not floating brakes, but radial mount brakes...and sure, they're better, but it's not like the old R6 brakes were lacking in any way. I like radial mount brakes, but can't help wondering if much of the hype is marketing-driven b/c MotoGP bikes use them.

and of course the old brakes were not lacking but they were not up to par with the other bikes, and in the world of modern sport bikes its not about whats lacking but what can put you on top.. if there is something better you can bet your ass everyone is going to use it.

yeah, do you have an expert roadracing license? If not, I'd suggest you don't really need radial brakes.
