Hey guys, I've been searching for countless hours on any info about the new 05+ Mercedes Benz C55 AMG's Topspeed. Its electronically limited to 155 MPH but on the speedometer says up to 200 MPH. My friend and I have this little wager going on, he says it can hit 200 MPH if the car limiter is removed, I said it's impossible with a stock C55.

I'm looking for any credible proof of the C55 topspeed whether it be video. magazine, MB website etc. Thanks in advance, I know I will win this one, just need some proof

 

i have no proof, but I REALLY doubt that the MB will hit 200MPH, unless of course, u drop it out of a plane
with its weight, it would probably need 600+hp to hit 200mph

 

Sorry but you're friend has no idea what he is talking about. There is no way a c55 can hit 200. Exotic's have trouble hitting 200. I think the speedo in my old volvo, when i was first learning to drive, went up to 130 or so. Does that mean that it could go that fast?

 

Only idiots think the speedo is a good reference for top speed.

Yup, even a RUF had a hard time on the 5th Gear episode from last month... and those are designed to go up to 200mph.

Hell a Gallardo maxes out around 200mph...

 

The Corvette C6 has 400HP, less frontal area and a very slick coefficient of drag. I goes 186.
I don't think the larger C class will do 200. Even if it did have the power, it probably doesn't have the aero to do it. One good reason to limit these cars to 155MPH is at speed approaching 200 mph the aero work becomes critical. It's too easy to have the car get unstable at these speeds. Hell, the Audi TT became unstable as speeds that were far lower hence the ugly spoiler they added.

 

if you're dumb enough to think the speedo is is how fast the top speed of a car is, then the s2000 can go 999mph
